In the Tank, a new sports talk radio show in central Alabama, debuts Tuesday on WTLS-AM 1300 and FM-106.5.
The show will be hosted by longtime Montgomery media figures Mike Tankersley and Graham Dunn.

It’s not every day a golf coach gives permission to a player to skip practice to watch television, let alone cancel practice altogether.
But late last week, Faulkner University coach Brent Barker got the request from newcomer Erik Hilde to forgo a practice round and head to the nearest television set to watch his brother, Tom, participate in the 2010 Winter Olympics.

BASS will return to Alabama, site of the 40th Bassmaster Classic and the state in which BASS was founded more than 40 years ago, for the second annual Bassmaster Elite Series postseason.

The Auburn University at Montgomery women’s basketball team hosted the 10th Annual Senator Stampede last Saturday (Sept. 26), and after all of the entries were tallied, 225 runners participated in the event. That number represents the highest number of participants in the 10-year history of the Stampede.

Living up to his storied reputation, Kevin VanDam of Kalamazoo, Mich., closed strong on the Alabama River at the Bassmaster Elite Series Postseason, scoring victory at the Evan Williams Bourbon Trophy Triumph, which earned him enough points in the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year standings to overtake California’s Skeet Reese.

Beginning Thursday, the top 12 fishermen in the country will spend two days fishing the waters of the Alabama River with $200,000 in prize money awaiting the winner in the Evan Williams Bourbon Trophy Triumph tournament.
The event is the final leg of the BASS ELITE SERIES.

For the second consecutive season, the Huntingdon women’s soccer team opened the season with a shutout victory, defeating Atlanta Christian 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

HUNTSVILLE – The North girls beat the South 3-0 and the North boys won over the South 2-0 in the 13th annual All-Star Sports Week’s prep soccer competition Tuesday night at John Hunt Park. The North improved its overall series record to 7-1-1 in girls play and 5-3-1 in boys.

TROY - The Troy University rodeo team recently concluded the 2008-2009 season with a trip to the College National Finals Rodeo. Both the men’s and women’s teams finished third in the Ozark Region this year, and the men’s team finished 22nd in the nation.

Following a first season that included the men’s program capturing the Great South Athletic Conference Championship and the women’s program earning runner-up honors, the Huntingdon cross country program and head coach Nate Rucker has announced the addition of 10 newcomers who have completed their intent to enroll paperwork and have committed to run this fall for Huntingdon.
