THURSDAY PREP: Lee looking for turnaround against old rival

Staff Report
(October 6, 2011)

One of the state’s closest and most respected rivalries ended earlier this season when Clay County and Lineville played for the final time. The two schools will merge next year to become Central of Clay County.

While they haven’t played as many times, Jeff Davis and Robert E. Lee have a similar rivalry at least when it comes to competitiveness, even if the two teams have had their struggles lately.

PREP CAPSULES: Lions attempt to put away shocker; White gets record

Staff Report
(September 30, 2011)

The River Region is still abuzz over the huge upset pulled by the Opelika Bulldogs last week at Prattville.

The Lions lost, 16-14, on a last-second field goal. Now, the move back into region play along with the rest of the teams in AHSAA as the second half of region play begins.

PREP CAPSULES: Longtime rivalries highlight non-region week

Staff Report
(September 23, 2011)

Teams in the River Region (AHSAA) take a break from region play this week but several games feature old rivalries, a few of which date back to the early 1900s.

PREP CAPSULES: Class 6A, Region 4 already a wild race

Staff Report
(September 16, 2011)

Not to the halfway point, the Class 6A, Region 4 race is becoming wild and wacky… just like last year.

The high school football season reaches the fourth week (third week in region play) and already, upsets are making the race for the playoffs in the biggest classification hard to predict. With Jeff Davis winning on Thursday and G.W. Carver and Sidney Lanier both pulling upsets last week, the 2-4 seeds will probably come down to the final week.

PREP CAPSULES: Carver, Stanhope headline Week 3

Staff Report
(September 9, 2011)

Regional races are in full swing and it looks as though several teams from the River Region will be in the thick of those races all season long.

But Friday could be vital for some teams on whether they are about winning the region or just a playoff spot.

THURSDAY PREP: Lee, Prattville tangle in the bowl

Staff Report
(September 8, 2011)

For one half, the Stanhope Elmore Mustangs were in prime position to do what they had done the year before to the Prattville Lions.

But their 7-6 halftime lead didn’t last more than a couple of minutes in the third quarter as Prattville rolled to a 34-7 win and avenge the loss to the Mustangs in 2010

Staff Report
(September 1, 2011)

After what could be called a debacle, one would expect Robert E. Lee coach Larry Ware to be an unhappy camper this week.

Not so fast, he said, when asked how he took last week’s 32-6 loss to Class 5A Pleasant Grove.

PREP CAPSULES: Games begin for AHSAA teams

Staff Report
(August 26, 2011)

It is officially no longer "pre" season.

Most of the AHSAA teams in the River Region will open play on Friday with several games featuring old rivalries and a few new ones as well.
