TUSCALOOSA — The University of Alabama men’s basketball team will host New Mexico in the second round of the National Invitation Tournament on March 21. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. CDT on ESPN…. The ninth-annual Red Cross "Swing For Relief" golf tournament is set for Thursday, March 24 at Arrowhead Golf and Country Club… Agape’s Run for a Mom 5k and Fun Run on May 7 helps prevent unplanned pregnancy in teenagers and assist women facing a crisis pregnancy.

More than 1,100 runners participated Saturday in the first-ever Montgomery Half-Marathon.

Mayor Todd Strange estimated that the event generated more than $1 million in economic impact.

The first-ever Montgomery Half-Marathon is scheduled for Saturday and the city of Montgomery seems to be ready.

Beginning Thursday, the top 12 fishermen in the country will spend two days fishing the waters of the Alabama River with $200,000 in prize money awaiting the winner in the Evan Williams Bourbon Trophy Triumph tournament.

The event is the final leg of the BASS ELITE SERIES.

Troy head football coach Larry Blakeney spoke to an opening night crowd of over 100 at the Montgomery Quarterback Club on Tuesday.

Blakeney, in his 19th season at Troy, chronicled changes that he had seen in high school and college football in the more than forty years he has been coaching.

Montgomery Quarterback Club announces changes

The Montgomery Quarterback Club has announced a change to its 2009 schedule. Tony Barnhart, who was scheduled for the Sept. 8 meeting, has canceled his appearance. Barnhart recently signed a contract with CBS Sports that calls for him to host a Tuesday night cable sports show. The Tony Barnhart Show will make its debut on Sept. 8.

Notes: AHSAA moves basketball regional back to Mobile; Ware camp this weekend

AHSAA executive director Steve Savarese announced late Tuesday that the University of South Alabama in Mobile will host the 2010 South Regional basketball tournament at the Mitchell Center, Feb. 16-20… The Larry Ware football camp is scheduled for this Saturday… First Tee event is scheduled for July 19 and the Calhoun Foods Golf Tourney is also scheduled for July 19.
