But it might seem like their paths in softball have been similar.

Blue Springs (Mo.) Fireball broke open a close game with a three-run fourth and pulled away for a 10-2 win over Bama X-treme in Wednesday’s action in the ASA 12-under National tournament at Fain Park.

The ASA 12-under National tournament will feature 89 teams from all over the nation. But there is a local flair.

The tournament, which opens Monday at Lagoon Park and Fain Park, features nine teams from the state of Alabama. For one local team, it’s a chance to see where it stands in a big world where the norm involves players traveling cross country to play for teams in places such as California and Florida.

As many as 89 teams, including nine from the state of Alabama and one from the River Region, will compete in the Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA) 12-under national tournament beginning Monday at both Lagoon Park and Fain Park.

Opening ceremonies are scheduled for Sunday evening at 6:30 at Riverwalk Stadium.

The East Montgomery Angels (ages 9-10) won the state tournament held in Scottsboro, defeating Rogersville twice on the final day to advance.

Weather hampered play in the 2011 Alabama All-Star Soccer games at Emory Folmar YMCA Fields on Tuesday. But two winners were decided.

The North girls scored just before officials called the game to win 2-1 while the South boys rode their defense to victory in a weather-shortened match to win, 1-0.
