If St. James starting pitcher Stephen Sadie needed a spark, he got not one, but two on Saturday.

After the St. James infield turned a double play to end a Satsuma threat in the top of the first inning, the offense followed with an eight-run eruption in the bottom half of the inning on the way to a 10-0 win in a mercy-rule shortened game at Trojans Field on Saturday.

St. James cruised to an 8-4 win over Satsuma in the first game of the first round of the AHSAA 4A playoffs, answering each run by the Gators with one of its own in the ensuing at-bat.

The second game didn’t quite follow the script, however, as six errors by the Trojans showcased St. James baseball at its worst and allowed Satsuma to escape with a 5-4 win, forcing a third game in the best-of-three series Saturday at St. James (26-5).

The area victory lifted Trinity to 4-0 in area play, virtually assuring the Wildcats of a berth in the state playoffs. LAMP dropped to 0-4, eliminating the Tigers from repeating their surprising run to the semifinals of the playoffs a year ago.
