Park Crossing won its third consecutive region title with a 34-19 victory over Sidney Lanier in what was one of the more bizarre games of the year at Cramton Bowl…Ethan Sellers booted a 30-yard field goal with three seconds remaining to give Opelika a 20-19 win over Wetumpka on Friday.

It’s not quite gut check time… at least for most of the teams in the River Region.
But a few have key regional contests while others are heading into the two biggest weeks of the season.

No one’s talking about the elephant in the room as St. James and Alabama Christian gear up for the biggest game of the year.
ACA is off to the best start in school history at 7-0, but suffered a huge loss last week when quarterback Reece Solar was injured in a 35-10 win at Ashford.
Solar reportedly suffered a broken jaw in the game, which would sideline him for this week’s game – and potentially for the next several weeks – but neither ACA coach Nate Sanford nor St. James coach Jimmy Perry wanted to speak on the subject.

Keefe White had 172 yards rushing and 92 more on a pair of kickoff returns to help Montgomery Academy avenge last year’s loss at Trinity…. The Sidney Lanier Poets broke open a 13-13 halftime tie scoring 21 unanswered points on the way to a 34-20 win over Jeff Davis in an intra-city battle at Cramton Bowl on Friday.

We’ve reached the official midpoint of the regular season and the jury is still out on a few teams.
There are no region games scheduled among teams in the River Region but plenty of rivalries are renewed including a couple in the Capital City.

Another week in the books and we continue to learn about the teams in the River Region.
Last week produced a few surprises, particularly in Class 4A where Alabama Christian defeated Dale County and Elmore County won its first game of the season.
