JASON ARMSTRONG CLASSIC: Trinity, LAMP earn key wins

Camden Lovrich pitched five innings of one-hit ball, helping Trinity roll to a 5-1 victory over defending 4A state champion UMS-Wright in the 25th annual Jason Armstrong FCA Memorial Classic at Riverwalk Stadium.

McKay Taylor had three hits and drvoe in three runs and Tyler Britton pitched five innings giving up just one hit to lead Trinity to a 13-0 five-inning win over Luverne in the opening game of the 2018 Jason Armstrong Memorial Baseball Classic at Riverwalk Stadium on Tuesday.

The 25th Jason Armstrong Memorial Baseball Tournament begins Monday with 20 teams slated to participated. The action begins with two games at Riverwalk Stadium and games continue through Saturday at both Riverwalk and Paterson Field.

Trinity’s Schweers to step down at the end of the 2017-18 basketball season

He greets opposing players with the same warmth and interest as if they were his own. And he generally knows almost as much about his opponent as he does his own team.

It’s rare to see a high school basketball coach combine the depth of basketball knowledge with a genuine concern for opponents that Jack Schweers possesses. It makes him unique among the area’s coaches and proof that good guys don’t finish last.

But Schweers is now locked in the biggest battle of his life and as he tries to complete his final season at Trinity Presbyterian while struggling with a chronic respiratory disease.

Longtime Trinity Presbyterian football coach Randy Ragsdale, who retired at the end of the 2016 season, is one of 11 high school coaches and officials who will be inducted into the Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame next March.
