NAIA men’s national soccer championship headed to River Region

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has awarded the 2012 and 2013 Men’s Soccer National Championships to Montgomery, Ala. Co-hosted by the Central Alabama Sports Commission (CASC) and the Southern States Athletic Conference, the matches will be played at the Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex. The 2012 National Championship will be contested from Nov. 26 – Dec. 1 and the 2013 event from Dec. 2 – 7.

Faulkner to celebrate 10th anniversary of NAIA national title on Saturday

Faulkner’s most successful and celebrated sports team – the 2001 NAIA basketball national champions – will be honored at halftime of the Eagles’ game Saturday afternoon against Belhaven. Most of the players and support personnel will be back for the 10-year reunion weekend, with a video montage and special presentations highlighting the celebration.

The Auburn University at Montgomery men’s soccer team was selected 17th in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Men’s Soccer Coaches’ Preseason Top-25 Poll, which was released on Tuesday.

When the announcement came that Huntingdon College earned its first-ever berth in the NCAA Division III football playoffs, the euphoria was expected.

Lost in the excitement was the Hawks would be at home for the first round, a first for the school and the city of Montgomery.

The Hawks will make history on Saturday when they play host to Mississippi College in the first round of the D-III playoffs at Samford Stadium. Kickoff is set for noon with the gates opening at 10 a.m.

Michael Johnson of the Auburn University at Montgomery men’s tennis team, has received the AUM Army Athletic Achievement Award… Junior forward Amber Elam, of the women’s soccer team, has been named to the 2009 ESPN THE MAGAZINE Women’s Soccer Academic All-America Third Team… The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has released the 2010 NAIA Baseball Coaches Preseason Top 25 Poll and has the Senators ranked 23rd.
