PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Cooper Kinney’s two-out single to right field scored Austin Overn with the game-winning run as the Montgomery Biscuits opened the 2026 season with a 2-1 victory over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in front of 5,038 fans at Blue Wahoos Stadium on Friday night.

The three-game series resumes on Saturday and Sunday before the Biscuits hold their home opener against the Columbus Clingstones on Tuesday at DABOS Park.

The two teams relied on pitching for much of the contest, with both the Biscuits and the Blue Wahoos scoring a run in the fifth inning. Montgomery took a 1-0 lead after Mac Hervath hit a leadoff double and scored on an Overn single. Pensacola tied it up in the bottom half of the inning as Jay Beshears hit a leadoff double and later scored on a Brendan Jones’ single.

Montgomery kept the game tied in the sixth as Pensacola’s Ryan Ignoffo tripled. Cristian Hernandez followed with a grounder to first, but Will Simpson threw home to catcher Kenny Piper for the tag on Ignoffo.

In the eighth, Overn led off with a single and stole second, then went to third on a bunt by Piper. After Simpson struck out for the second out, Kinney hit a line drive single to right to score Overn.

T.J. Nichols started the game for Montgomery, allowing just one run on six hits over the first five innings while striking out five and walking none. Hayden Snelsire picked up the win in the eighth and Derrick Edington retired the Blue Wahoos in the ninth for the save.

Overn went 3 for 5 with a run scored and an RBI to lead the Biscuits’ offense. Ryan Spikes went 2 for 3 and Kinney went 1 for 4 with an RBI.
