The Montgomery Biscuits will honor the nation’s birthday with a special celebration on Saturday night at DABOS Park.

The Biscuits will entertain the Biloxi Shuckers in a Southern League game at 6:05 p.m., but the theme for the night is a celebration of the nation’s birthday, which happens to fall a week later when the Biscuits are on the road.

“We still wanted to take part in the great America 250 celebration, so Saturday was the night we chose to do it on our promotional calendar,” Biscuits general manager Mike Murphy said. “We’ll treat it similar to what we have done on July 4 in past years. We’ll have a great fireworks show and some of the same pomp and circumstance. The team will be wearing some special uniforms for it.

“We wanted to give our fans the opportunity to come out to the ballpark before the Fourth of July to catch a MAX fireworks show.”

While Major League Baseball plans a special celebration on July 4, the Biscuits will be in Birmingham playing the Barons so Montgomery will hold the celebration a week early.

“Obviously, we would have loved to have been home to celebrate America’s 250th on the Fourth of July, but I think (this year) is maybe a little better because it’s a full year of celebration, not just the Fourth of July,” Murphy said.

The colors will be presented for the national anthem by the Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard. The Biscuits will be wearing America 250-themed hats and uniforms approved by Major League Baseball. After the game, there will be a MAX Federal Credit Union-sponsored fireworks show.

“It’ll just be a fun night overall,” Murphy promised.
