FRIDAY NIGHT RECAP: Auburn holds off Carver; Prattville rolls again; Marbury shocks Elmore County

Auburn 23, G.W. Carver 16
The Wolverines scored a late touchdown in the second half but could get no closer than seven points, falling to the Tigers on Friday at Cramton Bowl.
After a Yeong Suh 43-yard field goal gave Carver an early 3-0 lead, the Tigers scored twice in the second quarter, one of which was the conversion of a blocked punt by Camden Bowen that turned into a touchdown on a 2-yard run by Jaeden King. Auburn had a 14-3 lead with seven minutes remaining in the first half.
Auburn’s initial score came from quarterback Cason Myers, who ran 14 yards for a touchdown with 9:13 left in the half.
Carver scored on a fumble recovery by Jartavious Smith who raced 18 yards for a touchdown to pull the Wolverines to within five with just over four minutes to play still in the first half.
The first half scoring ended when Caver suffered a bad snap on a punt that went through the end zone handing Auburn a safety and a 16-9 lead at the break.
The Tigers pushed their lead to 23-9 with 9:05 left in the third quarter on King’s 2-yard run.
Carver got the final points of the game on a punt return off a bad kick. Christ McCoy scored on a 37-yard run with just over eight minutes left in the game.
Carver had opportunities late but could not convert good field position for the tying points. Auburn’s back up running back Jeremiah Owens helped the Tigers run out the clock with five carries for 68 yards in the final drive.
Myers finished the night with 126 yards passing on 11 of 23 attempts. He added 54 yards rushing on 15 attempts. King finished with 42 yards and a score on 11 attempts.
Carver quarterback Jayden Tyus was 11 of 22 passing for 136 yards. Elijah Tarver had 73 yards on 15 carries and a reception for 24 yards. Natorian Green led the receivers with four catches for 54 yards.
Along with the special teams mishaps, Carver also suffered two key fumbles in the loss.
Auburn improved to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in Class 6A Region 2. Carver lost for a second straight game and fell to 1-2 and 0-1 in region play.
The Wolverines travel to Dothan next Friday while Auburn goes to Enterprise.
Prattville 62, Tuscaloosa County 0
PRATTVILLE -- Will McKay completed 9 of 16 passes for 200 yards and four touchdowns, all in the first half, as the Prattville Lions demolished Tuscaloosa County 62-0 at Stanley-Jensen Stadium on Friday in the region opener for both teams.
Five of McKay’s passes went to CJ Brown, who had 105 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Kolby King added a 23-yard reception for a touchdown and DeShawn Hall had a catch for 19 yards.
Graison Connor had 76 yards and a pair of touchdowns on seven carries, while Marterrius Sankey had eight carries for 73 yards and a touchdown and Jaiden Crenshaw added 18 yards and a touchdown on four carries.
Defensively, Bryan Thomas returned an interception 26 yards for a touchdown, Datavius Caldwell had a pair of tackles and a fumble recovery, Tyler McIntyre had a pair of assists and a forced fumble and Jamichael Smith had three tackles and two assists.
Prattville (3-0) will remain in region play next week with a game at Hoover.
Billingsley 24, Georgiana 8
BILLINGSLEY -- Kyson Thomas rushed for 204 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries as the Bears won their first game in 2026 with a 24-8 victory at Mims Field on Friday.
The game was halted with 6:48 remaining in the third quarter due to a player injury.
Billingsley quarterback Trent Coburn completed 3 of 11 passes 56 yards and a touchdown with an interception, while rushing four times for 12 yards. Jaylen Cutler rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown on eight carries, while adding two receptions for 44 yards and a touchdown as part of a 404-yard effort.
Defensively, Caleb Massey had 12 tackles, including a pair of sacks, Trey Byrd had eight tackles, Lane Plott had seven tackles and Gabe Cardenas had six tackles, including a pair of sacks.
Billingsley (1-1) travels to Hayneville next week for a region game against Central High.
Holtville 50, Tallassee 40
TALLASSEE -- Holtville used a pair of big plays late in the game to rally for a stunning 50-40 victory over the Tigers at J.E. “Hot” O’Brien Stadium on Friday night.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a two-touchdown lead over Tallassee, but the Tigers clawed back into the game and took the lead in each of the final three quarters, with Holtville answering each time.
Gavin Russum’s 76-yard pass to Chance Brock put the Bulldogs on top for the final time and an insurance touchdown on a 56-yard run by Jay Lucas helped Holtville to just their fifth win in the 38-game series.
Brock finished with 120 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Lucas added 149 rushing yards and a touchdown and Russum had 151 passing yards and 31 rushing yards.
Holtville jumped out to a 14-0 lead on an 8-yard run by Daishaun Zeigler and a 6-yard run by Cole Parrish, but the Tigers countered with a 24-yard run by Trent Morris and a 76-yard pass from Morris to Hudson Timmerman that pulled Tallassee within 14-13.
Zeigler scored again on an 18-yard run, but Hamp Love scored on runs of 6 and 1 yards to put Tallassee in front 25-21. Love caught a two-point conversion pass from Morris for a six-point lead.
Lucas scored on a 52-yard run to put the Bulldogs in front, Milaki Griffin scored on a 5-yard run early in the fourth quarter to put Tallassee back in front and Holtville countered with a 46-yard reception by Brock and a two-point conversion run for a 36-33 lead.
Timmerman returned the ensuing kickoff 65 yards for a touchdown and a 40-36 lead before Holtville scored the game’s final 14 points to pull off the upset.
Holtville (2-1)returns home to play host to Elmore County in a region matchup next week, while Tallassee (0-3) travels to unbeaten Marbury for a 4A Region 4 matchup.
Marbury 35, Elmore County 6
MARBURY -- Alex Hamby completed 13 of 16 passes for 315 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Bulldogs rolled past Elmore County 35-6 in a 4A Region 4 game on Friday night.
Marbury (3-0) won its first three games for the first time since 2007, jumping on the visiting Panthers for a shocking 28-0 lead.
Hamby threw 60 yards to Cole Kenyon, 34 yards to Jamar Brown and ran 12 yards for a touchdown and a 21-0 lead. Jahanthony Morrell added a 33-yard touchdown run for a 28-point lead before Kason Moe threw a 64-yard touchdown pass to Beau Traylor to put Elmore County on the scoreboard.
Keenan Williams added a 1-yard touchdown run to close out the scoring.
Morrell, who had three receptions for 127 yards, and Austin Fallon, who had 87 yards on six catches, were the primary targers for Hamby. Hamby also added 66 rushing yards and a touchdown on six carries for the Bulldogs.
Tyler Payton led the Elmore County rushing attack with 24 yards on two carries. Moe completed 7 of 13 passes for 115 yards and a touchdown but was intercepted twice.
Marbury will remain home to play host to Tallassee in a region game next Friday, while Elmore County (1-2) will travel to Holtville for a region game.
Wetumpka 32, Rehobeth 2
WETUMPKA - Karsen Tate scored two touchdowns and Deon Floyd added a score to help the Indians open region play with a win over Rehobeth on Friday at Wetumpka Municipal Stadium.
Charlie Skipper threw for a touchdown and added another on a run. Jordan Hill had a reception for a touchdown for Wetumpka.
The Indians are 3-0 overall to start the season, a first since 2018. They face Russell County next week in another Class 5A Region 2 contest.
Trinity 49, Prattville Christian 0
Trinity opened the Class A Private portion of the schedule with an impressive win over PCA on Friday at Ragsdale-BoykinField.
Quarterback Patton Mitchell passed for two touchdowns and added another on a run to lead the Wildcats.
Drew Sanders added two runs for scores while Brandon Boswell and Land Sharpless also scored touchdowns for Trinity.
Boswell, Rocky Bailey and William Hughes each had five tackles to lead Trinity defensively.
Trinity improved to 2-1, 1-0 in region play and visits Alabama Christian next Friday. PCA (2-1, 0-1) returns home to face Pike Liberal Arts.
Catholic 38, Faith Academy 7
MOBILE -- In the first of three trips to Mobile this season, the Catholic Knights jumped on Faith Academy early and cruised to a 38-7 win over Faith on Friday night.
It was the first-ever meeting between the two Class AA Private Region 1 rivals.
KJ Johnson led the Knights with 120 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries as the Knights built a 28-7 halftime lead.
Will Blackwell completed 11 of 19 passes for 173 yards and a touchdown in the win.
JP Costa added a 44-yard field goal and three touchbacks on kickoffs.
Defensively, linebacker Fred Lewis had 10 tackles and returned an interception for a touchdown.
AJ Dottery added eight tackles and Mylez Gourdine had an interception for the Knights.
Catholic (2-1) returns home to play host to Houston Academy next Friday.
Edgewood Academy 13, Lowndes Academy 8
HAYNEVILLE -- Edgewood Academy scored on a 97-yard fumble return to grab a 13-0 lead, then held off Lowndes Academy late to beat the Rebels 13-8 at Mac Champion Stadium on Friday night.
Lowndes Academy, shut out on offense to that point, was on the verge of scoring and possibly taking the lead when the Wildcat defense turned in the play of the game. The Rebels marched back down the field and scored on Jase Humphries’ 9-yard run and two-point conversion to make it 13-8 but could get no closer.
Edgewood (2-1) returns home to play host to Southern Prep next week, while Lowndes (1-1) travels to Luverne to play Crenshaw Christian next week.
Abbeville Christian 14, Hooper Academy 7 (OT)
HOPE HULL -- Hunter Bowman threw a 42-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Griggs to help the Colts force overtime, but Abbeville Christian scored a touchdown in the overtime period and escaped Davis Henry Field with a 14-7 victory on Thursday night.
Defensively, Cooper Cook led the Colts with 10 tackles, while Bowman added seven.
Hooper (2-1) will play host to Chambers Academy next week, while Abbeville Christian (2-1) will travel to Prattville to play Autauga Academy.
