PREP HOOPS: Hooper tops Macon East in tourney; Billingsley edges Isabella

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Hooper Academy 37, Macon East Academy 33

LOWNDESBORO -- Katie Robinson and Jade Taylor combined for 13 points in the fourth quarter as the Colts rallied from a three-point deficit in the final quarter to defeat the Knights 37-33 in the Tri-County Tournament in the Lowndes Academy gym on Friday.

Robinson scored half of her team-high 14 points in the final quarter and Taylor scored half of her 12 in the final period as the Colts rallied from a game-long deficit with clutch baskets in the final period.

Jamya Powell scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Knights. Addie Longcrier added nine points, all in the second half.

Macon East (2-2) plays at Coosa Valley on Monday, while Hooper (3-5) plays at Lowndes on Monday.

Trinity 49, Montgomery Academy 34

The Lady Eagles had four players score seven points apiece including Kaci Armistead, Bennett Britt, EG Hines, and Garland Thomas.

The Lady Eagles fall to 2-3 on the year, and are back in action on Saturday as they take on 7A Huntsville.

 

Prattville Christian 64, Holt 9

HOLT -- Reagan Houston scored 15 points and had four rebounds as the Panthers snapped a four-game losing streak by winning their area opener over Holt 64-9 on Friday.

Baylee Rogers added 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists, followed by Laney Little with 12 points and seven rebounds and Kayleigh Arthur with 10 points, five assists and five steals. Leah Cate Wilson added six points and 15 rebounds and Avery Mann had six points, six assists and four steals. PCA (3-7) will return home for its second area contest, playing host to West Blocton on Tuesday.

Stanhope Elmore 45, Prattville 43

PRATTVILLE -- Kuraji Crosby had 19 points and 13 rebounds and blocked six shots to lead the Mustangs to a 45-43 win over the Class 7A Lions in Powell Gym on Thursday night.

Heaven Bailey added 18 points, five assists, five rebounds and four steals, while Teonna Davis had a game-high 17 rebounds along with five assists.

Stanhope Elmore (7-2) returns home to play host to Tallassee on Friday.

 

Thorsby 46, Alabama Christian 38

Adalyn Newkirk had 23 points, 13 rebounds and four steals for the Eagles but Thorsby held on for a 46-38 win in the Alabama Christian gym on Thursday night.

It was the Class 3A Area 5 opener for Thorsby (4-2), while ACA (2-4) dropped to 0-2 in area play.

Peri Laine Holley added six points and three rebounds for the Eagles.

 

BOYS BASKETBALL

Montgomery Academy 72, Trinity Presbyterian 49

The Eagles took a 39 -27 lead into the half and extended that lead by outscoring Trinity 22-10 in the third quarter to put the game out of reach. 

Mason Eliis scoried 15 of his game high 21 in the first half. He added four assists, four rebounds, four steals, and a blocked shot.

Braden Gordon added 16 points, 13 in the second half, sixrebounds, three assists, and two steals while Jarrett Friendly added 12 points, all in the first half, 11 rebounds, three assists, three blocks, and two steals.

MA improves to 3-2 with the win. The Eagles face Class 7A Huntsville on Saturday.

Holt 40, Prattville Christian 31

HOLT -- Carter Fiacco had 17 points, eight steals and five rebounds for the Panthers in a 40-31 loss to the Ironmen in the area opener on Friday night.

CJ Robinson added seven points and five rebounds, followed by Justin Chapman with four points, nine rebounds and four steals and Cody Chapman with four points and four steals. Wade Mora grabbed six rebounds.

PCA (3-7) will return home for its second area game, facing West Blocton on Tuesday.

In the junior varsity game, Ethan Kinne scored four points and Ben Parmer and Spencer Wilson each had three as the Panthers (0-7) lost to Holt 43-13.

Hooper 61, Lowndes 28

LOWNDESBORO -- Twelve players scored for Hooper Academy as the Colts used a balanced attack to defeat Lowndes 61-28 in the opening round of the Tri-County Tournament at Lowndes Academy on Thursday night.

Seven of those players scored in the first quarter as the Colts raced out to a 24-2 lead.  

Tramen Davenport had 13 points, followed by Bradee Colvett with seven and Jacoby Rabb and Cohen Forster with six points each.

Jeremy Hardy had 17 points for the Rebels, scoring nine of their 12 first-half points.

Hooper returned to action in the tournament on Friday against Edgewood, while Lowndes faced Macon East.

 

Thorsby 67, Alabama Christian 52

Lucas Jackson led a balanced attack with 16 points as the Rebels won their Class 3A Area 5 opener on Thursday with a 67-52 win over the Eagles in the Alabama Christian gym on Thurssday.

Max Burnett added 12 points, followed by Braylen Carroll with 11 and J.T. Green with 10 as the Rebels scored 23 points in the second quarter to extend a five-point lead to 44-23 at the half.

AJ Shannon had 13 points to lead ACA (2-4, 0-2 in area play), followed by Christian Snipes with 10 points and four rebounds and Levi Summers with eight points and nine rebounds.

 

Billingsley 56, Isabella 50

BILLINGSLEY -- Jake Rawlinson had 18 points, 14 rebounds and five blocked shots to lead the Bears to a 56-50 win over Isabella in the Billingsley gym on Tuesday.

Dequavion Ray had 17 points and seven rebounds for the Bears, while Kyle Boice had five points, seven rebounds, seven assists and six steals.

Billingsley returns to action on Thursday against Holtville and Friday against Autauga Academy in a pair of home games.
