PREP RECAP: Catholic flag football wins eighth straight; Hooper volleyball finishes regular season with win

FLAG FOOTBALL

Catholic 26, Marbury 0

MARBURY -- Hayden Fitts threw three touchdown passes and ran for another to lead the Knights to their eighth consecutive win in a 26-0 shutout at Marbury on Thursday.

Catholic improved to 5-0 in region play with the win.

Fitts completed 12 of 20 passes for 167 yards and three touchdowns, throwing touchdown passes to Haley Ishman, Ellis O’Connor and Kaylee Hinkle. Fitts also rushed for 29 yards and a touchdown on five carries and was the leading tackler on defense with six stops and an interception.

Avery Sadler also completed 4 of 6 passes for 39 yards and Charley Frank was 2 of 4 for 23 yards.

Ishman led the receivers with 94 yards and a touchdown on five receptions. Sadler had three catches for 33 yards, Kallie Hampton had three receptions for 31 yards and O’Connor had three receptions for 31 yards and a touchdown. Hinkle had two catches for 19 yards and a touchdown and Francis Rogers had two receptions for 21 yards.

Addi Little had six stops on defense and Molly Dwyer had five.

Catholic (13-4) travels to Camden on Tuesday to close out the region schedule with a game at Wilcox Central. The Knights will then travel to Birmingham’s John Carroll on Thursday for a tri-match that includes Hoover and John Carroll.

Marbury will travel to Tallassee next week. 

VOLLEYBALL

Hooper Academy 3, Fort Dale 2

GREENVILLE -- Hooper Academy needed five sets, but the Colts came away a winner with a 3-2 match over Fort Dale Academy in the final regular season game on Thursday.

For the Colts, Jenna Conway had 17 kills, 11 blocks, eight digs and a pair of assists, Libby Bressler had 41 assists and nine digs, Henlee Garvin had 15 kills, 16 digs and a pair of aces and Ellie Pugh had eight kills, three blocks, five digs and two aces.

The two teams will be back in action on Tuesday at the Class AA Region Tournament. Hooper (19-4) will face fourth-seeded Trinity Christian in the opening round, with the winner advancing to the state tournament.

Other first-round games include Edgewood vs. Crenshaw, Lowndes vs. Springwood and Chambers vs. Fort Dale. All first-round winners will play semifinal matchups to help determine their seeding for the upcoming state tournament.
