PREP UPDATE: ACA's Snipes reaches 1,000 points in win over LAMP; PCA girls top American Christian

BOYS BASKETBALL
Alabama Christian 58, LAMP 48
Christian Snipes had 28 points and 12 rebounds to help Alabama Christian snap a five-game losing streak with a 58-48 win over the Golden Tigers in the ACA gym on Tuesday night.
In the process, the senior forward became the 11th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point mark in his career, finishing with 1,001.
Ethan Capps added 11 points and six rebounds, followed by Levi Summers with seven points and eight rebounds.
Alex Scott led LAMP with 18 points.
ACA (7-15) closes out the regular season next Tuesday at Reeltown.
American Christian 48, Prattville Christian 34
PRATTVILLE -- PCA missed the opportunity to finish in a three-way tie in the area race with a 48-34 loss to the Patriots in the area finale on Tuesday in the PCA gym.
Carter Fiacco led the Panthers with 13 points, followed by Wade Mora with eight points and five rebounds, Cody Chapman with four points and five assists and CJ Robinson with four points and four rebounds. Justin Chapman grabbed seven rebounds and Ethan Girlie scored three points.
Bibb County (8-0) won the 4A Area 6 race, followed by American Christian (5-3), Holt (4-4), PCA (3-5) and West Blocton (0-8). PCA will face West Blocton in a first-round area tournament game in two weeks, with the winner advancing to the semifinals at Bibb County against the Choctaws.
PCA (11-14) will travel to play Holtville on Thursday.
In the junior varsity game, Ethan Kinne led PCA with nine points and four rebounds in a 47-23 loss to American Christian. Easton Carr added five points and Spencer Wilson had three points and five rebounds for PCA (2-16).
Valiant Cross 63, Evangel Christian 47
Valiant Cross defeated Evangel Christian 63-47 on Tuesday to finish the Class AA Region 1 Area 2 race unbeaten.
D’John Wright scored 20 points for the Lions in their loss at Valiant Cross, folllowed by Donnell Harris with eight points and Nathaniel Doss with seven.
Evangel Christian (9-10) finished second in the area race at 4-2 and will play host to Hooper Academy in the regular season finale on Thursday, then will host a first-round playoff game at home on Feb. 7.
Montgomery Academy 85, Dallas County 53
PLANTERSVILLE -- Montgomery Academy withstood a first-half upset bid from Dallas County, outscoring the Hornets 28-10 in the third quarter to finish the area race unbeaten with an 85-53 win on Tuesday night in the Dallas County gym.
Dallas County hit seven 3-pointers in the first half to keep pace with the Eagles, trailing on 40-37 at the half, before Montgomery Academy ramped up the defensive pressure in the third quarter.
Jarrett Friendly hit 10 of 14 shots from the field to finish with 23 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, three steals and a blocked shot to lead the Eagles.
Braden Gordon also had 23 points along with eight rebounds, three steals and three assists. Mason Ellis added 12 points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists, followed by JayJay Jackson with eight points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals, Caleb Myles with six points and four rebounds and Will Renfroe with five points, six rebounds and three steals.
Montgomery Academy finished the 3A Area 5 race with an 8-0 record, followed by Dallas County (5-3), Thorsby (3-4), St. James (3-4) and Alabama Christian (0-8). Montgomery Academy will host the area tournament in two weeks.
Montgomery Academy (20-5) will return home to play host to G.W. Carver on Friday for Senior Night.
Marbury 70, Holtville 44 (Saturday)
MARBURY -- Jamar Brown had 16 points, four rebounds, six assists and a blocked shot to lead Holtville to its fifth consecutive 5A Area 5 championship with a 70-44 win over Holtville on Friday in the Marbury gym.
Aden Burdette added 15 points, two assists and a block and Noah Trotter had 13 points, two rebounds, two assists, four steals and a block for the Bulldogs. Jalen Hall added eight points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots and Jahanthony Morrell had six points, three rebounds and three steals.
The win kept Marbury unbeaten in Area 5 play at 3-0, followed by Holtville (1-2) and BTW Magnet (1-3).
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Prattville Christian 55, American Christian 19
PRATTVILLE -- Laney Little scored 22 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to help PCA finish the area schedule unbeaten with a 55-19 rout of the Patriots on Tuesday night in the PCA gym.
Avery Mann added 11 points, followed by Leah Cate Wilson with six points and 11 rebounds. Kayleigh Arthur and Mitra Mora with five points each and Reagan Houston with three points and nine rebounds. Baylee Rogers added three points and four assists.
PCA finished the 4A Area 6 race unbeaten at 8-0, earning the right to host the area tournament in two weeks. Bibb County finished second at 6-2, followed by American Christian (4-4), West Blocton (1-7) and Holt (1-7). West Blocton and Holt will play each other in a first-round game for the right to play PCA in the area tournament semifinals.
PCA (13-11) will travel to play Holtville on Thursday.
Montgomery Academy 65, Dallas County 28
PLANTERSVILLE -- The Eagles outscored the Hornets 48-13 in the second and third quarters on the way to a 65-28 rout in a game that was pushed back a day because of wintry weather.
Montgomery Academy recorded 18 steals and 14 assists in Tuesday’s game while hitting 12 of 15 from the free-throw line.
Kaci Armistead led all scorers with 19 points, going 7 of 8 from the free-throw line along with five steals, three rebounds and an assist. Bailey Davis added 11 points, five rebounds, four assists, three steals and a blocked shot. E.G. Hines scored 10 points, along with six steals, four rebounds and two assists, while Garland Thomas had eight points, four assists, four rebounds and a steal.
Montgomery Academy closed out area play at 5-3, trailing St. James (7-0) and Thorsby (5-2) and finishing ahead of Dallas County (1-7) and Alabama Christian (7-0). Montgomery Academy will face Thorsby in the area tournament semifinals in two weeks at St. James.
Montgomery Academy (9-13) returns home to face G.W. Carver on Friday on Senior Night.
Alabama Christian 68, LAMP 37
Campbell Hammett had 16 points, seven rebounds and four steals as the Eagles snapped a three-game losing streak with 18 points in the first quarter and 22 in the second on the way to a 68-37 win in the ACA gym on Tuesday night.
Adalyn Newkirk added 12 points, five rebounds and three assists, followed by Sam Burgess with 10 points, five rebounds and three steals, Addison Smith with nine points and Peri Laine Holley with eight.
Amira Rudolphi led LAMP with nine points, followed by Ella Grace Dupree with eight. Chloe Thomas and Caroline Russell each had seven points for the Golden Tigers.
Alabama Christian (8-12) will travel to Reeltown on Tuesday to close out the regular season.
Trinity 61, Booker T. Washington 25
Ellie Causey scored 21 points, along with five steals, to eclipse the 1,000-point career mark in a 61-25 rout of the Golden Eagles in a 4A Area 5 game at Captain Jack Court on Tuesday night.
Lilly Smith added a double double with 16 points and 13 rebounds, along with four steals. Lizzie Causey had 11 points, six steals and five rebounds and Micaiah Shelton grabbed 10 rebounds.
The win set up a battle for the 4A Area 5 regular season title against Catholic on Friday at Captain Jack Court. Catholic leads the area at 7-0, followed by Trinity (5-1), Tallassee (2-3), Booker T. Washington (2-4) and LAMP (0-7).
Trinity (16-7) closes out the area schedule with home games against Catholic on Friday and Tallassee on Tuesday.
St. James 66, Trinity 25 (Saturday)
Trinity’s shooting woes continued as the St. James defense held the Wildcats in check for an easy 66-25 win in the St. James gym on Saturday afternoon.
The game was originally scheduled for Dec. 4 but was postponed by scheduling conflicts. Kaitlin Mitchel had 19 points, three rebounds, two assists and four steals to lead the Trojan attack.
Natalie Barton added 13 points, two rebounds, five assists and four steals, followed by Morgan Lilly with 10 points, five rebounds and four assists.
St. James won for the 10th time in the last 11 games while snapping the Wildcats’ five-game winning streak.
St. James (23-4) will close out the Area 5 schedule with a Wednesday game at Thorsby that was pushed back two days because of wintry weather. The Trojans will return home to play Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa on Thursday and UMS-Wright on Friday.
Trinity (15-7) plays Catholic on Friday in a 4A Area 5 game.
WRESTLING
Catholic finishes in fifth place in Piedmont Dogfight
PIEDMONT -- Catholic finished in fifth place in the nine-team Piedmont Dogfight on Saturday as seven wrestlers finished in the top four.
Edmund Feil finished second in the 115-pound weight class, losing to Orange Beach’s Beau Brizendine in the first round before battling back to take second. At 134 pounds, Carter Anderson placed second after losing to Lyric Brown of White Plains in the championship match and Andrew Gueret was second at 140 pounds after losing to Chandler Murphy of White Plains.
At 177 pounds, Caleb Armstrong finished second after losing to Bentley Chandler of Piedmont in the championship match and Cam Chappelle was second at 192 pounds after losing to Mac Peters of Orange Beach in the championship round.
Patrick Sikes (108 pounds) and Tye Rountree (122) placed fourth in the event.
For Prattville Christian, Ryan Lueck won the 146-pound division, beating Julian Rodriguez of Piedmont in the championship match, and Brysen Bowman won at 217 pounds after beating Gray Reid of White Plains in the championship match.
Jens Johnson was second at 152 pounds after losing to Grayson Miller of Orange Beach in the championship match and Brysen Pugh was second at 159 after losing to James Heard of White Plains in the championship match. Carter Copeland (167) and Logan Wesch (192) placed fourth.
Orange Beach won the event with 159.5 points, followed by Piedmont (154), White Plains (152), Prattville Christian (140), Catholic (104.5), Cherokee County (72), Escambia County (69), Coosa Christian (66) and Vinemont (42).
