PREP UPDATE: Catholic, Billingsley earn flag football wins; Hooper volleyball trips up Edgewood

FLAG FOOTBALL

Catholic 27, St. Anne Pacelli 12

COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Catholic scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to pull away from St. Anne Pacelli for a 27-12 victory on Monday afternoon.

Hayden Fitts ran for a touchdown and threw for two more to lead the Knights to their third consecutive victory. The senior completed 11 of 25 passes for 100 yards and a pair of touchdowns, along with two interceptions. She also rushed seven times for 60 yards and a touchdown and had four flag pulls on defense.

Haley Ishman caught five of Fitts’ passes for 41 yards and a touchdown, while Avery Sadler had three receptions for 20 yards and a touchdown and Frances Ann Rogers had three catches for 21 yards. Aria Martinez added a 21-yard touchdown reception.

Sadler led the Catholic defense with eight stops. Rogers had three flag pulls and an interception and Maggie McNeely had an interception as well.

Catholic trailed 6-0 at the end of the first quarter, but rallied with 13 second-quarter points to take a seven-point lead at the half. After St. Anne Pacelli scored a third-quarter touchdown to trim the deficit to 13-12, the Knights pulled away with a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns.

Catholic (3-1) returns home to play Smiths Station next Tuesday at Catholic.

Billingsley 36, LAMP 6

BILLINGSLEY -- Mia Schuffert completed 9 of 13 passes for 80 yards and five touchdowns as the Bears won their first-ever region game with a 36-6 victory over the Golden Tigers on Tuesday.

Billingsley started its flag football program in 2025 but wasn’t placed into a region for playoff consideration until the 2026-27 school year.

Camia Sheppard rushed for 43 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.

Ella Fisher led the receivers with four catches for 15 yards. Maya Schuffert had three receptions for 10 yards and two touchdowns, Ja’Kayla Harris had three catches for 15 yards and a pair of touchdowns and Taliyah Moore had three receptions for 35 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Maya Schuffert led the Bears with four tackles, along with Harris, who had four flag pulls and an interception. Moore had three stops and Sheppard had an interception.

Billinbgsley remains home to play Holtville in its second-ever region game on Tuesday. 

VOLLEYBALL

Hooper Academy 3, Edgewood Academy 2

ELMORE -- Jenna Conway had 23 kills, six blocks, eight digs and an ace to help the Colts win a five-set thriller against the Wildcats in the Edgewood gym on Tuesday afternoon.

Jade Taylor added four kills, four digs, nine assists and an ace for the Colts, while Kinsley White had nine aces, four kills, a block and four digs and Jaylen White added a kill and 11 digs.

The Colts improved to 1-0 in Class A Region 1 Area 2 play and can clinch the area title with a win over the Wildcats next Tuesday in Hope Hull.

Hooper Academy (6-4) returns home to play Abbeville Christian on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Prattville Christian 3, Alabama Christian 0

Prattville Christian swept Alabama Christian 25-16, 25-15 and 25-17 to capture their second win in area play in the Alabama Christian gym on Tuesday.

For the Panthers, Maddie Brownlee had three digs, Anniston Robison had five aces, six digs and 10 assists, Aubrey Cox had an assist, Charlotte Connell had a kill, Copeland Miller had a block, a dig and five kills, Christiana Franklin had seven blocks and a pair of kills, Ella Claire Caudle had a dig, Haven Harrell had an ace, three digs and two assists, Jordyn Harris had four assists, Olivia Rossi had a dig and six kills, Maren Diefenderfer had an ace, a dig and four kills, Elle Maddox had two aces, five blocks and a kill, Sara Grace Smith had an ace and two digs and Peyton Thrash had a block.

Prattville Christian (4-13) improved to 2-3 in area play and will play host to St. James on Thursday, while Alabama Christian will travel to Greenville to play Fort Dale Academy on Thursday.

Thompson 3, Montgomery Academy 2

ALABASTER -- Montgomery Academy and Thompson split the first four sets before Thompson won the fifth set 15-7 to defeat the Eagles on Tuesday in the Thompson gym.

Thompson won the first set 25-18 and the third set 25-12, while losing the second set 25-22 and the fourth set 25-22.

For the Eagles, Bennett Britt had 15 kills, two blocks and 10 digs, Morgan Springer had 11 kills, four blocks, an ace and two digs, E.G. Hines had nine kills, a block and 12 digs, Addison Kitchens had three kills, two blocks and three digs,  Rehmat Sidhu had three kills, two blocks, an ace, 17 digs and 30 assists, Caroline Wood had a kill, three blocks and two digs, Lizzie Campbell had an ace and 20 digs and Kathleen Johnston had an ace and 11 digs.

Montgomery Academy (8-4) will return home to play Pike Road on Thursday at 6 p.m., followed by a first-round matchup with Marbury on Friday at 4 p.m. in the Mayor’s Cup at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl.
