PREP UPDATE: Catholic flag football shuts out St. Michael; Area volleyball tourney updates

Catholic got a taste of the postseason on Tuesday while honoring its seniors in a 33-0 shutout of St. Michael in a flag football game at Catholic.
The Knights were scheduled to play John Carroll and St. Michael, but John Carroll canceled the trip, leaving Catholic to play St. Michael, its potential second-round playoff opponent.
Catholic (12-1) scored 13 points in the first quarter and 14 in the second on the way to an easy victory. The Knights, as the top seed in Class A-AA Private Region 2, will draw a first-round bye in the upcoming playoffs and will face the winner of a first-round game between the second-seeded team in Region 1 and Northside Methodist Academy.
McGill-Toolen, Mobile Christian and St. Michael are all tied in Region 1 with 1-1 area records. A coin flip will determine the seeding of the three teams in the playoffs.
Catholic honored seven players on Senior Night, including Hayden Fitts, Haley Ishman, Avery Sadler, Addi Little, Anne Hickman, Maggie McNeely and Frances Ann Rogers.
Fitts completed 10 of 18 passes for 136 yards and four touchdowns, while Sadler completed 6 of 6 passes for 50 yards and a touchdown.
Fitts also caught a pass for 23 yards and Sadler caught two for 17 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Aria Martinez had five receptions for 61 yards and two touchdowns, McNeely had three catches for 22 yards, Rogers had three receptions for 67 yards and a touchdown, Derry Hill had two catches for 14 yards and Molly Dwyer had two catches for 20 yards.
Little led the Catholic defenders with five stops, followed by Ireyda Perez-Mendez with four. Fitts had three flag pulls and an interception.
Catholic won its 12th consecutive game in the process and will travel to Enterprise on Thursday. The Knights will close out the regular season with a game at Hoover on Oct. 22, a home game with Trinity on Oct. 27 and a game at Northside on Oct. 29.
AHSAA AREA TOURNAMENT RESULTS AND PAIRINGS

The tournament winner and runner up in 1A-5A will advance to the sub-regional round on Monday, while Class 6A and A Private will advance to the super regional round. The teams in Class AA Private will hold postseason tournaments in the super regional round after determining seeding in the area tournament.
