PREP UPDATE: LAMP swim team finishes second in state meet; St. James girls basketball tops Hillcrest

The six-member LAMP girls swim team finished second in the 66th Alabama High School Athletic Association Swimming and Diving Championships at the Huntsville Aquatics Center on Saturday night.

Arab finished first in the 1A-5A girls’ competition with 223 points to win its first-ever state championship.

The LAMP girls’ team, consisting of Lyndee Mass, Samantha Brandt, Rachel Jeong, Eunyou Kim, Yujin Jung and Anna Park finished second with a score of 198, followed by Scottsboro (160), Westminster Christian (122) and Alabama School CTE (119).

Anna Park, Yujin Jung, Eunyou Kim and Rachel Jeong placed fifth in the 200-yard medley relay, while Kim, Jung, Samantha Brandt and Lyndee Mass placed fourth in the 200-yard free relay. Park, Mass, Kim and Jeong finished second in the 400-yard free relay.

Mass was second in the 200-yard individual medley and fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke. Park was fourth in the 200-yard individual medley and sixth in the 100-yard backstroke. Kim was fifth in the 100-yard butterfly and Jeong was second in the 50-yard freestyle and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke.

 GIRLS BASKETBALL

Saint James 49, Hillcrest 34

TUSCALOOSA -- Kaitlin Mitchell had 15 points and four steals to lead the Trojans to a 15-point win over the Patriots in the Hillcrest gym on Friday night.

The win was St. James’ fourth victory over a Class 7A opponent this season.

Morgan Lilly added 13 points and four steals, followed by Natalie Barton with 11 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.

St. James (5-0) will travel to Albertville on Saturday to play Moody.

PCA wrestlers place seventh in 19-team King of the Mountain Tournament

HIAWASSEE, Ga. -- The Prattville Christian Academy wrestling team was the lone Alabama participant in the King of The Mountain Tournament after making the 4.5-hour drive to Towns County High School.

PCA took 12 members to the event, which included teams from Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina.

Individually, the Panthers brought back five medals as Jude Bray, Ryan Lueck and Carter Copeland all finished fourth in their respective weight classes. Konner Ray and Bryson Bowman both made the finals of the tournament, but came up short in their championship matches and finished on the podium in second place.  

The PCA wrestling team does not return to the mat for competition until Dec. 4 when the Panthers travel to Tallassee for a quad meet that includes Alabama School for the Blind and St. James.
