PREP UPDATE: Montgomery Academy tennis continues to roll; Pike Road softball tops Prattville

BOYS TENNIS

Montgomery Academy 8, Providence Christian 1

The Montgomery Academy Eagles defeated previously unbeaten Providence Christian School on Tuesday at MA’s McLemore Tennis Center.

Singles winners for Montgomery Academy were Jackson Brown, Duncan McInnes, Anton Yang, Bo Johnston and Gaines Burnham.

Doubles winners for Montgomery Academy were the doubles teams of Brown and Ford Morano at No. 1, McInnes and Liam Baker at No. 2 and Yang-Johnston at No. 3.

Montgomery Academy (10-2) will take a week off for spring break, returning to action on March 25 against section foe Opelika.

 

SOFTBALL

Pike Road 4, Prattville 3

PIKE ROAD -- Abby Olesen earned her fifth win of the season by pitching seven innings of three-hit ball as the Patriots defeated Prattville 4-3 on Tuesday.

The freshman right hander walked six and struck out one in the complete-game victory.

At the plate, Kennedy Thompson singled in Kennedy Cuthbert in the bottom of the first to get the scoring started.

In the bottom of the third, Cuthbert walked, Addison Belyeu followed with a double down the third base line and Thompson added a fielder’s choice to score Cuthbert. Thompson continued to second base and was caught in a rundown that allowed Belyeu to score as well.

Prattville scored two runs in the fourth inning and another on a wild pitch in the fifth to tie the game.

In the bottom of the seventh, Kasyn Wilson reaches on an error to lead off, Cuthbert drew a walk and both runners advanced on a sacrifice by Belyeu. After an intentional walk to Thompson to load the bases, Addison Tate draws a walk to force in the winning run.

Pike Road (10-5) travels to Russel County on Thursday. Earlier in the day, Pike Road defeated Park Crossing 16-0 with Paisley Forshey throwing a no hitter in three innings.

 

BOYS SOCCER

Montgomery Academy 2, Dothan 1

Jess Veale and Harris Armstrong each scored a goal to lead the Eagles to a 2-1 area victory over Dothan on Tuesday at McLemore Field.

Grady Ming delivered an outstanding performance in goal, finishing the night with 15 saves. Ming made several crucial stops at key moments in the match, keeping Montgomery Academy in the lead and demonstrating excellent positioning, reflexes and composure.

 

Trinity 4, Prattville Christian  0

Trinity shut out Prattville Christian 4-0 in a game played at Ragsdale-Boykin Field on Monday.

PCA (0-6) returns home to play host to JAG on Thursday.

In the junior varsity game, the Panthers (3-3-1) were shut out by Trinity 1-0 and will travel to Charles Henderson on March 24.

 

GIRLS SOCCER

Dothan 9, Montgomery Academy 0

The Montgomery Academy girls were shut out 9-0 in an area game against Dothan at McLemore Field on Tuesday.

Montgomery Academy (2-5) evened its area record at 1-1 and will take a week off for spring break before returning to action on March 25 against Prattville.

 

Prattville Christian 0, Trinity 0

The Panthers and the Wildcats fought to a scoreless draw on Monday at Ragsdale-Boykin Field on Monday.

Scarlett Mahlke led the Lady Panthers as she recorded the shutout in goal.  

PCA (0-3-3) returns home to play host to Autauga Academy on Thursday.

 

BASEBALL

Catholic 14, Montgomery Academy 7

Hays Marks had two hits and four RBIs, including a three-run home run, as the Eagles dropped a 14-7 decision against the Knights at Montgomery Academy on Monday.

Hudson Bradshaw also had a three-run home run for the Eagles William Marks and Reid McBride each added two hits as well.

Hays Marks took the loss on the mound, going four innings and giving up four earned runs.
