PREP UPDATE: Trinity golf wins Prattville Tourney; Pike Road softball edges Smiths Station; Brantley hoops wins 1A boys title

Trinity won its first tournament of the year, taking the championship of the 16-team Prattville Invitational Tournament at Lagoon Park Golf Course earlier this week.
Trinity’s Brycen Dorsch was the low medalist, shooting a 1-under-par 71. Teammate Whit Bixenman made the all-tournament team, shooting a 76.
Trinity finished in first place with a 315, followed by Vestavia Hills (316), St. James (322), Briarwood Christian (324) and Prattville (326). Thompson finished in sixth place with a 329, followed by Andalusia (330), Moody (334), Daphne (338) and Elmore County (345).
Rounding out the field were Wetumpka (350), Charles Henderson (358), Leeds (359), Providence Christian (360), Tuscaloosa Academy (380) and Stanhope Elmore (411).
Finishing behind Dorsch were Briarwood Christian’s Anderson Dennis with a 72, John Getty of Vestavia Hills with a 75, Bixenman with a 76 and Charles Henderson’s Parker Knick with a 76.
Rounding out the top 10 were Will Dickey of St. James with a 77 and Prattville’s Jack Little with a 77. Andalusia’s Levi Wilburn, St. James’ Eli Sommer, Tuscaloosa Academy’s Michael Warr Jr., Wetumpka’s Sam Sharp and Daphne’s Drew Bennett were all tied for eighth place with a 79.
The Wildcats placed first with a 315. In addition to Dorsch and Bizenman, Evan McMullin shot an 83, Mackin Roth shot an 85 and Anderson Burns shot an 86.
Vestavia Hills was second with a 316. In addition to Getty, Drew Nelson and Andrew Coshatt both shot an 80, followed by Eli Myrick at 81 and Ethan Green at 82.
SOFTBALL
Pike Road 13, Smiths Station 12
PIKE ROAD -- Pike Road was down to its last out and trailing 12-8.
L.K. Vinson led off the bottom of the seventh with a line out to the outfield. McKenzie Tate was hit by a pitch and her twin sister Addison Tate followed with a hard single to left. Paisley Forshey hit a ball snagged by the pitcher for the second out.
Down by four runs with two on and two out, Kasyn Wilson doubled home the twins. Kennedy Cuthbert walked, Addison Belyeu singled home Wilson making it 12-11. Kennedy Thompson followed with a walk setting up Haleigh Morris with some theatrics. With a 2-2 count, Morris laced a single into left center scoring Cuthbert and Belyeu for the win.
Wilson lead the Patriots with 3 hits and 2 doubles. Cuthbert had two hits, a home run and 2 walks. Addison Tate and Addison Belyeu each had two hits as well. Vinson, Forshey, Thompson, McKenzie Tate and Morris all had a hit.
Abby Olesen got the win, pitching a complete game while walking four, striking out none and allowing 11 hits.
BOYS TENNIS
Vestavia Hills 7, Montgomery Academy 2
VESTAVIA HILLS -- In a rematch between 2025 Class 7A state champion Vestavia Hills and Class 7A runner-up Montgomery Academy, the Rebels came away with a hard fought 7-2 win on Tuesday.
Anton Yang recorded the only win in singles for the Eagles, defeating Jackson Glenn 8-6, but the remainder of the battles were just as intense. At No. 1, Andrew Pipkin defeated Jackson Brown 8-2; at No. 2, Austin Hodd defeated Liam Baker 8-6; at No. 3, Alex Nelson defeated Duncan McInnis 8-6; at No. 5, Ben Mitchell defeated Bo Johnston 8-5; and at No. 6, Hamp Holbert defeated Blevins Henderson 9-7.
Montgomery Academy picked up its other point in doubles as the No. 1 team of Brown and Baker defeated Austin Hood and Alex Nelson 10-7. At No. 2, Andrew Pipkin and JB Harris defeated McInnis and Henderson 10-4 and at No. 3, Hamp Hollbert and Jackson Glenn defeated Yang and Johnston 11-9.
Montgomery Academy (8-2) will be back in action on Wednesday against section foe Prattville at Montgomery Academy’s McLemore Tennis Center.
GIRLS TENNIS
Vestavia Hills 8, Montgomery Academy 1
VESTAVIA HILLS -- Defending Class 7A state champion Vestavia Hills defeated Montgomery Academy 8-1 in a tennis match at Vestavia Hills on Tuesday.
The Eagles picked up their only point at No. 1 doubles as Lola Campbell and Alyssa Kaplan defeated Lucille Fuller and Sophia Chen 11-9.
Vestavia Hills swept the singles, with No. 1 Kitty Watts defeating Campbell, No. 2 Claire Mitchell defeating Kaplan, No. 3 Fuller defeating Mary Surhea White, No. 4 Chen defeating Charlotte Vann, No. 5 Anvitha Yaparla defeating Lillian Cameron and No. 6 Camille Guthrie defeating Sailor Vance.
In doubles, the Rebels won at No. 2 as Watts and Addison Peters defeated White and Bailey Davis and at No. 3 as Mitchell-Chen defeated Cameron-Vance.
Montgomery Academy will play section opponent Prattville on Wednesday at McLemore Tennis Center before traveling to Tuscaloosa for the Hillcrest Doubles Tournament this weekend.
GIRLS SOCCER
Houston Academy 6, Montgomery Academy 0
Houston Academy shut out Montgomery Academy 6-0 in a soccer match on Tuesday.
Despite the score, goalkeeper Ella Chamblee played a great game in goal, facing 16 shots and making eight saves.
Montgomery Academy (2-4) will face Dothan at McLemore Field on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
Elmore County 3, Prattville Christian 0
Prattville Christian 0, Holtville 0
ECLECTIC -- Prattville Christian was shut out by Elmore County in a soccer match on Tuesday.
On Thursday, Scarlett Mahlke and Eden Alexander combined in goal for the shutout to lead the Lady Panthers. PCA is now 0-3-2 on the season and will travel to play Trinity on Monday.

Holtville 1, Prattville Christian 0
ECLECTIC -- Prattville Christian lost to Elmore County 5-0 on Tuesday. The Panthers followed with a loss to Holtville on Thursday.
PCA (0-5) will travel to play Trinity on Monday.
AHSAA STATE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
CLASS 1A BOYS FINALS: Brantley 45, Hubbertville 44
BIRMINGHAM – Brantley High School senior guard Jackson Mitchell made a shot at the top of the 3-point arc with seven seconds remaining to lift Brantley to a 45-44 victory over Hubbertville in the boys Class 1A championship game Thursday at the BJCC Arena.
Devin Melton, a 6-foot-9 freshman, had 12 points, 16 rebounds and four blocked shots to earn Class 1A MVP honors. Julius Sylvester added 10 points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots for the Bulldogs (25-7).
The Lions (30-6) took the lead 44-42 with just over two minutes remaining thanks to a free throw and layup by Kane Rushing. The junior finished the night with 14 points. Teammates Cole Brand and Tracee Cowan each had 12 points. Brand also had 11 rebounds, Rushing and Blaize Wakefield had 10 each.
Brantley’s win helped erase last year’s heartbreaking 69-67 loss to R.C. Hatch in the 1A finals, and a 57-56 loss in the 2013 state championship game to St. Jude.
