PREP VOLLEYBALL: Rudolph reaches milestones in Catholic win; MA wins twice

Catholic 3, Lee-Scott Academy 1

Catholic won its sixth consecutive match and remained unbeaten in area play after defeating Lee-Scott Academy 25-13, 25-13, 22-25 and 25-17 in the Catholic gym on Thursday night.

Zaria Rudolph had 19 kills, a .538 hitting percentage, along with 16 assists, six digs and four blocks to lead the Knights. The junior outside hitter was honored before the game for reaching a pair of career milestones with 1,000 kills and 300 blocks.

Ava Bierly had 14 digs, Lyla Sanford had eight kills, 22 assists and a block and Kayla Blackwell had 16 kills, a .541 hitting percentage, along with seven aces and two blocks.

Catholic (10-2) reached the halfway point in area play with a 3-0 record and will travel to Daphne this weekend to play in Bayside Academy’s Battle by the Bay Tournament.  

Montgomery Academy 3, Prattville Christian 0

Montgomery Academy remained unbeaten in Class A Private Area 4 play with a sweep of the Panthers on Thursday night, winning 25-15, 25-14 and 25-17.

Bennett Britt had 10 kills, a block, 12 digs and two assists to lead the Eagles, while Morgan Springer had 10 kills, four aces and a dig. E.G. Hines had 11 kills and six digs, Addison Kitchens had three kills and a block, Rehmat Sidhu had three kills, four digs and 22 assists, Lizzie Campbell had three aces, 11 digs and an assist, Kathleen Johnston had an ace, 10 digs and an assist, Emilyn Trott had a kill and Caroline Wood had four kills and two blocks.

For PCA, Maddie Brownlee had two digs, Anniston Robison had eight digs, two kills and five assists, Aubrey Cox had three assists and two digs, Copeland Miller had two kills and two digs, Ella Claire Caudle had two assists and seven digs, Christiana Franklin had a kill and a block, Haven Harrell had five digs, Jordyn Harris had six assists and four digs, Olivia Rossi had eight kills, eight digs, an ace and two blocks, Maren Diefenderfer had five kills, two blocks, an ace and two digs and Elle Maddox had six blocks, an ace and three digs.

Montgomery Academy (8-3) improved to 4-0 in Area 4 play and will travel to Alabaster on Tuesday to play Thompson at 5 p.m., followed by a home match with Pike Road on Thursday at 6 p.m. and the Mayor’s Cup on Friday and Saturday.

PCA (3-13) dropped to 1-3 in area play.

Montgomery Academy 3, St.  James 0

Montgomery Academy swept a volleyball match with the Trojans on Tuesday, defeating St. James 25-17, 25-18 and 25-16.

Bennett Britt had 17 kills, an ace and five digs, Morgan Springer had six kills, an ace and five digs, Rehmat Sidhu had two kills, a block, six digs and  34 assists, E.G. Hines had five kills, four digs and an assist, Addison Kitchens had five kills, a block and two digs, Lizzie Campbell had an ace, 11 digs and four assists, Emilyn Trott had four kills, two blocks and a dig, Kathleen Johnston had an ace and two digs and Caroline Wood had a kill.

Montgomery Academy (7-3) improved to 3-0 in Area 4 play and will play host to Prattville Christian on Thursday.

Trinity 3, Prattville Christian 1

After two closely contested sets, Prattville Christian fought back to take the third set 25-19 before losing in the fourth set against Trinity on Tuesday.

The Wildcats won the first two sets, 25-23 and 25-21, then won the fourth set 25-23.

For the Panthers, Aubrey Cox had 13 assists, a kill, nine digs and an ace, Copeland Miller had three kills and a dig, Christiana Franklin had a kill, Ella Claire Caudle had two digs, Haven Harrell had three assists, four digs and an ace, Jordyn Harris had 21 assists and eight digs, Olivia Rossi had 10 kills, five digs, two blocks and five aces, Korbyn Stubblefield had an assist, Maren Diefenderfer had 21 kills, nine digs, a block and an ace, Elle Maddox had four kills, an assist, four digs, four blocks and an ace and Sara Grace Smith had three digs.

PCA (3-12) dropped to 1-2 in Area 4 play and will travel to Montgomery Academy on Thursday.

Trinity (4-8) won for the third time in the last four games, beating Auburn 2-1 and St. James 3-2 last week, along with a 2-0 loss to Pike Road. The Wildcats improved to 2-1 in Area 4 play and will travel to Daphne this weekend to play in Bayside Academy’s annual Battle by the Bay.

Junior Lilly Smith was recognized for recording her 1,000th  career dig recently. She also had a career-high 44 digs in the St. James match.
