River Region Quarterback Club releases list of featured speakers for 2026

By TIM GAYLE

The River Region Quarterback Club is back for its third season at Huntingdon College with a slate of featured speakers that opens on Sept. 1 with former Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs.

“I’m pretty excited about what we have on tap,” said Allen Farr, the “head coach” for the club in 2026. “We start with Jay Jacobs. I think he’s going to be a fantastic speaker. The second week, we’ve got a couple of people coming from Auburn that are on the (support) staff. We’ve got (former Alabama quarterback) Steadman Shealy, a two-time national champion at Alabama.

“The person I’m probably most excited to hear from is Tyrone Poole, not necessarily because he’s the flag coach at ASU, although that’s incredible. But he’s a two-time Super Bowl winner.

“We’re still a small organization, we’re still in our infancy. We want to grow the membership. Hopefully, being in this new venue and having some of these speakers will appeal to different people who haven’t tried us out.”

Speakers include Jacobs on Sept. 1; Auburn director of football and alumni relations Jeris McIntyre and former Auburn director of recruiting Harding Harper on Sept. 15; Shealy on Sept. 29; referee Steve Marlowe on Oct. 13; Troy athletic director Kyle George on Oct. 27; Poole on Nov. 10; former Alabama tackle Wesley Britt and former Auburn defensive end Brett Eddins on Nov. 24; and former Auburn quarterback and Central High coach Patrick Nix on Dec. 8. The annual awards banquet will be held on Jan. 26.

The Quarterback Club will remain at Huntingdon College but will change locations, moving from a room off of the cafeteria to The Hut, a location adjacent to Catherine Dixon Roland Student Center.

“It’s going to be a lot better,” Farr said. “The move was actually facilitated by (Huntingdon president) Anthony Leigh. This multipurpose building they have, which is between Flowers (Hall) and their gym, had been sitting there for a long time and it wasn’t really getting any use. They got a really nice private donation a couple of years ago … and he just decided to use the donation for this. They’ve updated everything. It’s absolutely fantastic in there.

“Having this newly renovated area, we’ll have better parking. We’re basically doubling our space and it’s much more condusive for our meetings.”

Breakfast is served at 7:30 a.m., with the program scheduled to run from 8-9 a.m.

The club continues to grow with individual memberships starting at $150 annually. Members can bring a guest for $10.

“It’s growing slower than we had hoped but we’re growing,” Farr said. “We’re using email and Facebook a lot more this year than we have in the past. We probably had 60-65 members last year and there are already 170 people who have joined our Facebook page, so that has helped us engage a broader base of people.

“We’re not there as a club, but what we’ve been able to do in the first two seasons and now with this third season is to find interesting speakers and speakers that can bring nuances that people may not have thought about.”
