Hines new girls basketball coach at Macon East

Jeff Hines has been chosen to lead the girls basketball program at Macon East.

Hines brings 30 years of coaching experience to the school, having started his career as an assistant boys basketball coach under Barry Mohun at Prattville High in the late 1990s. From there, he went to Dadeville, then to Wallace Community College in Selma, Holtville, Benjamin Russell and Chambers Academy for the last seven years.

He was recently released from Chambers, where he had served as the dean of students.

“Everybody needs a change,” Hines said. “This opportunity came about and we jumped on it. My services were no longer needed (at Chambers) and I was told it had zero to do with my coaching ability. I’ve got some wonderful relationships there. I coached some incredible young ladies.

Daniel named Director of Private schools for AHSAA

Alabama High School Athletic Association Executive Director Heath Harmon announced the  hiring of  Lee-Scott Academy athletic  director and head football coach Barry “Buster” Daniel as Assistant Director with his chief responsibility as the newly created Director of Private Schools.
Harmon received approval from the AHSAA Central Board of Control to add the  position following the announcement last December of the AHSAA’s plan to provide independent schools with their own divisions for championship play. The new plan, which begins with the 2026-27 school year, provides six classifications for public schools and two classifications (A and AA) for independent school members.
“Buster Daniel will be joining our staff on June 22, 2026, in the role of Assistant Director,” said Harmon. “Coach Daniel brings with him a wealth of coaching experience and relationships throughout the state in the coaching community.”
Daniel, a football and baseball standout who graduated from Valley High School in 1983, has spent more than three decades as an educator and coach. He attended Southern Union Community College and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Auburn University-Montgomery in 1993. He completed his Master of Science degree in 2008 at Troy University, Fort Benning (GA).
“I’m extremely honored to accept the position of Assistant Director for the Alabama High School Athletic Association,” Daniel said. “I have been associated with the AHSAA for over 35 years, most of those as a high school coach. The history of the association speaks for itself, with honor and integrity, and I am grateful for the chance to be a part of such an institution.”
