SEC 2026 FOOTBALL SCHEDULES RELEASED: Tide, Tigers set for nine-game schedules
By GRAHAM DUNN
The 2026 football schedule has been officially released for the Southeastern Conference.
For the first time, all 16 teams will play nine conferrence games. And this year, unlike the last two, each team has just one off week, thanks to a “normal” calendar.
Alabama and Auburn each have four conference home games and five road games. The Crimson Tide will open the conference season in the second week of the season (Sept. 12), traveling to Lexington to face Kentucky. it is the first conference game in the league. It is the earliest conference game for Alabama since facing Florida in Week 3 of the 2021 season (not including the 2020 season when the schedule was all conference games).
Auburn made a controversial announcement earlier in the fall that the season opener against Baylor would be moved to Atlanta. But the Tigers play the next three games at Jordan-Hare Stadium, including two conference games against Florida and Vanderbilt.
Alabama kept some of its traditional dates including the Third Saturday in October at Tennessee and the first Saturday in November which is normally saved for the game against LSU. Alabama (and LSU) will have its lone off week prior to the trip to Baton Rouge. The Tide will play host to Auburn in the annual Iron Bowl to finish out the regular season on Nov. 28.
Auburn gets its lone off week the week of Oct. 10 before the traditional rivalry game against Georgia, this time in Athens. The Tigers play five consecutive conference games from the Georgia game on Oct. 17 through Nov. 14 at Mississippi State.
Alabama and Georgia will face off on Oct. 10 beginning s stretch of five straight games in conference play with one off week scheduled for Oct. 31 for the Tide.
The Bama/Georgia game will be rivaled on the Saturday that the Red River Rivalry will take place in Dallas with Texas facing Oklahoma.
What has been a sore spot for Alabama fans in regards to opponents which have the week off or against a “cupcake” the week prior to facing the Crimson Tide, only a couple of teams meet that criteria. As tradition, both LSU and the Crimson Tide also has a week off prior to the trip to LSU on Nov. 7. Kentucky faces Alabama in Week 2 but opens the season against FCS opponent Youngstown State. Texas A&M plays the Citadel prior to facing Alabama on Oct. 24 Both Alabama and Auburn face FCS opponents prior to the Iron Bowl.
No team faces Auburn after an off week. Georgia goes to Alabama the week before playing host to the Tigers on Oct. 17. Auburn has an off date that week.
Other key games include Lane Kiffin returning to Ole Miss with his new team on Sept. 19 facing the Rebels and their new head coach, Pete Golding. New coaches Alex Golesh of Auburn and Jon Sumrall of Florida will face off for their first conference games on the same day.
The annual Florida-Georgia game will be in Atlanta on Oct. 31.
There are five weeks with the schedule with all conference games but only one of those weeks has all 16 in action (Nov. 7).
The first week of the season, Sept. 5, will have at least one game moved off of Saturday. Any changes will be announced at a later date.
Texas and Texas A&M will play on the Friday following Thanksgiving (Nov. 27).
