SPRING PREPS: MA baseball wins three in Gulf Shores; Catholic soccer tops LAMP, Trinity

BASEBALL

Montgomery Academy 12, Ashland (Okla) 4

GULF SHORES -- Paxton Haigler allowed just two hits in three innings, while Kingston Nelson and Chapman Baker each drove in a pair of runs to help the Eagles to a 12-4 win over Ashland in the third game of the Gulf Coast Classic on Tuesday.

Haigler struck out three and allowed just two hits over the first three innings. Oliver Steen pitched the final three innings, allowing four runs on three hits.  

Nelson went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, while Reid McBride went 2 for 2 with an RBI, scoring three times.

 

Montgomery Academy 13, Father Ryan (Tenn.) 2

GULF SHORES -- Reid McBride went 3 for 4 with a grand slam and six RBIs to lead Montgomery Academy to a 13-2 win over Father Ryan in the Tuesday opener in the Gulf Coast Classic.

McBride was the winning pitcher as well, allowing just one hit over five innings while striking out five.

Vincent Desautels went 3 for 3 with two RBIs, William Marks had three hits and scored three runs and Paxton Haigler had an RBI and three runs scored.

 

Catholic 8, Andalusia 0

ANDALUSIA -- Ethan Levanda collected a pair of hits at the plate and threw a complete game shutout on the mound to lead the Knights to an 8-0 victory over Andalusia on Tuesday.

Will Vucovich singled in a run in the first inning and the Knights made it 3-0 an inning later with RBI singles by Will Blackwell and Levanda.

Blackwell led the Knights offensively, going 3 for 5 at the plate, while Jordan Jackson went 1 for 3 and drove in a pair of runs.

Catholic travels to St. James on Tuesday.

 

Montgomery Academy 16, Battle Ground Academy (Tenn.)  8

GULF SHORES -- Kingston Nelson and Finley Haigler each drove in three runs as the Eagles won their tournament opener, defeating Battle Ground Academy 16-8 in the Gulf Coast Classic on Monday.

Nelson went 3 for 4 to lead the Eagles’ offense, while Vincent Desautels and Reid McBride each scored three runs.

Hays Marks drove in a pair of runs at the plate and was the winning pitcher, allowing three runs and striking out two in 3.1 innings.

Montgomery Academy returns to action on Tuesday against Father Ryan.

 

GIRLS SOCCER

Catholic 6, LAMP 0

Eighth grader Amelia Pettah scored a pair of goals as the Knights defeated LAMP 6-0 in an area soccer game on Thursday.

Eighth grader Andrea Diaz scored the game’s first goal with an assist from freshman Lily Sweeney. Pettah scored the second goal with an assist from Ellis O’Connor, then assisted on O’Connor’s goal for a 3-0 lead. Pettah scored again with an assist from Diaz, Abby Talbot scored with an assist from Chayse Jordan and Maddie Longpre rounded out the scoring with an unassisted goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Kyleigh Harris recorded two saves and secured a shutout.

Catholic (7-1-1) improved to 3-0 in area play and will face Wetumpka on Thursday.

 

Prattville Christian 10, Autauga Academy 0

PRATTVILLE -- Addison Sutton scored two goals and assisted on three others to lead PCA to a 10-0 win over Autauga Academy at Panther Stadium on Thursday.

Baylee Rogers and Aiden Williams each added two goals and an assist. Anna Porter scored two goals and Mady Roy had two assists. Avery Mora and Eden Alexander each scored a goal.

Scarlett Mahlke, Caroline Burkhart and Eden Alexander combined for the shutout in goal.

PCA (1-3-3) improved to 1-0 in area play and will return to action in Troy against Charles Henderson on Tuesday.

 

Catholic 2, Trinity 1

Ellis O’Connor and Maggie Holmes each scored a goal to help Catholic defeat Trinity 2-1 in an area game at Ragsdale-Boykin Field on Tuesday.

O’Connor scored with an assist from eighth grader Amelia Pettah, while Holmes scored with an assist from Chayse Jordan.

Defensively, Claire Aaron, Maddie Longpre, Hailey Zaworski and Ellie Wallock combined to hold the Wildcats to just six total shots with four shots on goal.

Goalkeeper Kyleigh Harris recorded her sixth win of the season and added three saves to her save total.

Catholic (6-1-1) improved to 2-0 in area play and will travel to Emory Folmar Soccer Complex on Thursday to play LAMP in an area game.

 

BOYS SOCCER

Prattville Christian 2, JAG 0

PRATTVILLE -- Ethan Greene and Cody Chapman each scored a goal as PCA won its first game of the season with a 2-0 win over JAG at Panther Stadium on Thursday.

Matthew Meier had one assist while Landyn Guidry recorded the shutout in goal.

PCA (1-6) will travel to play Charles Henderson on Tuesday.

 

GIRLS TENNIS

Montgomery Academy 6, Homewood 3

HOMEWOOD -- Junior varsity freshman Sawyer Murphy filled in at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles to help the Eagles secure a pair of crucial points in defeating Homewood 6-3 at the Homewood Athletic Center on Thursday.

Murphy filled in at No. 3 doubles, teaming with Sailor Vance to defeat Leila Jarvis Dabalia and Sabrina Ranieri, then defeated Ranieri at No. 6 singles to help the Eagles secure the victory.

Montgomery Academy swept the doubles as Lola Campbell and Alyssa Kaplan won at No. 1 and Bailey Davis and Lillian Cameron won at No. 2.

Armed with a 3-0 lead, the Eagles split the singles competition to secure the win as Kaplan won at No. 2, Vance won at No. 4 and Murphy won at No. 6.
