TUESDAY PREPS: Butler leads Tallassee baseball past Catholic; Prattville Christian soccer shuts out Holtville

BASEBALL

Tallassee 5, Catholic 1

TALLASSEE -- Jack Butler scattered four hits and one run over 5.1 innings to help Tallassee defeat Catholic 5-1 in a 4A Area 5 game at Southside Middle School on Tuesday.

Abram Whittington went 3 for 3 to lead the Tigers with singles in the third, fifth and sixth innings.

Tallassee took the lead for good in the bottom of the first as Brue Milner hit an RBI double down the left field line and Kaleb Gillespie followed with a RBI single down the right field line.

Milner also had three hits for the Tigers. Butler improved to 4-0 on the mound.

Jordan Jackson went 2 for 4 to lead Catholic. Sal Barranco went 1 for 4 and drove in the Knights’ only run.

Ethan Levanda took the loss, allowing five runs, four earned, on 10 hits in six innings, while striking out nine and walking two.

The two teams resume the series on Wednesday with a doubleheader at Catholic beginning at 2 p.m.

 

BOYS TENNIS

Montgomery Academy 7, Enterprise 2

Montgomery Academy swept the doubles matches and won four singles matches to defeat Enterprise 7-2 in a key Class 7A Section 2 match at McLemore Tennis Center on Tuesday.

In singles, Jackson Brown, Anton Yang, Bo Johnston and Blevins Henderson won matches for the Eagles.

In doubles, the Eagles won all three matches with Brown and Liam Baker winning at No. 1; Ford Morano and Duncan McInnes winning at No. 2; and Yang-Johnston winning at No. 3.

Montgomery Academy (12-2) improved to 6-0 in Section 2 play and will play host to Hoover on Wednesday before closing out the regular season with a big section match at home against Auburn on Tuesday.

 

GIRLS TENNIS

Montgomery Academy 9, Enterprise 0

Montgomery Academy swept both singles and doubles competition to defeat Enterprise 9-0 and remain undefeated in Class 7A Section 2 competition at McLemore Tennis Center on Tuesday.

In singles, Lola Campbell won at No. 1, Alyssa Kaplan won at No. 2, Mary Surhea White won at No. 3, Charlotte Vann won at No. 4, Lillian Cameron won at No. 5 and Sailor Vance won at No. 6.

In doubles, Campbell-Kaplan, White and Bailey Davis and Cameron-Vance won for the Eagles.

Montgomery Academy (11-6) improved to 6-0 in Section 2 play and will remain home on Wednesday to play Hoover at 2:30 p.m. on Senior Day, where senior Vance will be honored.

The Eagles close out section play on Monday at home against Auburn.   

 

BOYS SOCCER

Prattville Christian 1, Holtville 0

HOLTVILLE -- Nolan Currier scored the game’s only goal with an assist from Ethan Green to lead the Panthers to a 1-0 win over Holtville on Tuesday.

Landyn Guidry recorded his second shutout of the season in goal for PCA.

PCA (2-8) will play host to Elmore County on Thursday.

 

GIRLS SOCCER

Holtville 3, Prattville Christian 1

HOLTVILLE -- Addison Sutton scored the Panthers’ only goal in a 3-1 loss to Holtville on Tuesday.

PCA (1-6-3) will play host to Elmore County on Thursday.

 

Catholic 4, LAMP  0

Sophomore Claire Aaron scored a pair of goals and assisted on two others to account for all of the points in the Knights’ 4-0 win over LAMP on Monday.

Aaron scored the game’s first two goals with assists from Maddie Longpre and Amelia Pettah, then assisted junior Chayse Jordan on a pair of goals to close out the scoring.  

Freshman goalkeeper Kyleigh Harris secured her sixth shutout of the year with three saves.

Catholic dominated the game taking 32 shots, with 21 of those on goal, while scoring four goals. LAMP managed just three shots, with all three on goal but failed to score.

Catholic (9-2-1) improved to 4-1 in area play and return to action on Wednesday at home in an area matchup with Tallassee.
