VOLLEYBALL UPDATE: New MA coach Falcione opens career with two wins

The Carly Falcione Era opened in winning fashion on Thursday night as Montgomery Academy’s volleyball team defeated St. James 26-24 and 25-14 and Alabama Christian Academy 25-13 and 25-17.

It marks the first time since 1978 that someone other than Hall of Fame coach Julie Gordon has coached the Eagles, but the results were the same as the Eagles improved to 2-0.

Montgomery Academy will travel to Hoover on Friday to play in the annual Juanita Boddie Tournament, facing Decatur and Bayside Academy on Friday.

 

Prattville Christian 3, Prattville 0

PRATTVILLE -- Prattville Christian opened the 2025 season with a win over the Class 7A Lions in three sets, winning 25-14, 25-22 and 25-18 on Thursday night in the Powell Gym.

Anniston Robison had six kills and two digs, Olivia Rossi had six kills, Leah Cate Wilson had a pair of kills and a pair of blocks and Maren Diefenderfer had five kills, an assist and two aces.

Baylee Rogers had 14 assists, three kills, a block and four digs, Morgan Fowler had two assists, three aces and five digs, Aiden Williams had an assist, seven aces and three digs, Christiana Franklin had a pair of blocks and Kenadie Minor had three digs.

PCA (1-0) returns home to host the Panther Classic Tournament on Saturday.

 

Catholic 3, Fairhope 1

The Knights battled back from an opening-set loss with three consecutive wins to defeat Class 7A Fairhope 3-1 in the Catholic gym on Thursday night.

Fairhope won the first set 25-18 before the Knights rallied to win 25-19, 25-21 and 25-18.

Kierstyn Green had 12 kills, seven digs and two blocks, Joi McGuire had 15 kills, 19 digs and four blocks, Zaria Rudolph had 12 kills, 18 digs and five blocks and Lucy Logsdon had eight kills, 11 digs and four blocks.

Catholic (1-0) will travel to Prattville Christian on Tuesday and Holtville on Thursday for an area game.

 

Enterprise 2, Trinity 0

Pike Road 2, Trinity 1

Trinity opened the season at home on Thursday, losing to Class 7A Enterprise 25-20 and 25-20 and to Class 6A Pike Road in three sets, losing the first set 28-26, winning the second set 25-23 and dropping the third set 15-11.

Trinity (0-2) will participate in the Boddie Tournament on Friday and Saturday before traveling to Marbury for an area match on Thursday.
