The Montgomery Biscuits arrived Tuesday at Riverwalk Stadium with the idea of finishing the job.

The Biscuits were a win away from giving the Tampa Bay Rays minor league organization a clean sweep in championships. The Biscuits were the only team to come up short in their respective run to a title.

But the 2022 version is stacked with plenty of talent, including a few names that fans should remember.

“I am fascinated by this organization, by the talent that is running through it,” stated Morgan Ensberg, who is entering his fourth year as the manager of the Biscuits.

“The people in Montgomery get a chance to see these guys who will play in the Majors. There will be all stars in Montgomery and eventually in the (MLB). I think that’s fascinating.”

Returning are Double A veterans Niko Hulsizer, an outfielder who is known for his prodigious home runs (8 with the Biscuits in 51 games); pitchers Caleb Sampen, Jayden Murray, Miller Hogan, Justin Sterner, Alan Strong, Nathan Witt and Christopher Gau; catchers Erik Ostberg and Blake Hunt and infielders Austin Shenton and Greg Jones.

A majority of the roster was part of the Class High-A champs Bowling Green a year ago, including pitcher Taj Bradley, who is considered one of the top hurlers in the system. The righthander split 22 starts with the Hot Rods and Low-A Charleston. He finished with a combined 12-3 record with 123 strikeouts in 103.1 innings pitched.

Infielder Curtis Mead is expected to become a fan favorite. The Aussie hit a combined .321 between three teams, including a short stint with Durham (AAA). He slammed 15 home runs with a .533 OPS and .911 OPS.

The Biscuits are scheduled to hold workouts on Wednesday and Thursday before heading out for the season opener at Mississippi. The first home game is set for next Tuesday against Tennessee. First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
