LAFAYETTE -- Macon East’s Matthew Kitchens pitched a five-hit shutout in the opening game of a AA Region 1 Area 1 game with the Rebels before Chambers rallied to win the second game of the doubleheader 13-3 in five innings on Monday.

The first game counts in the area standings and Macon East improved to 3-0 in area play. The second game counts as a tiebreaker should the two teams finish tied in the area standings at the end of the regular season.

Kitchens pitched a complete game in the opener, striking out four and walking none in seven innings of a 3-0 win to help Macon East sweep the season series with Chambers.

Kitchens helped his cause at the plate, going 2 for 3, while Jabe Boroff went 1 for 3 with a two-run home run to center field and Luke Noffsinger went 2 for 2 with a double to drive in the Knights’ other run. Camden Bell, Deonte Powell and Bryant Rascoll also finished with a hit each.

In the second game, Kitchens went 3 for 3 with an RBI and a stolen base and Boroff went 2 for 3 to lead the Knights at the plate. Gunner Justice, Rascoll and Noffsinger all finished with a hit as well, but it wasn’t enough to keep Chambers from snapping Macon’s 14-game winning streak.

Macon East (24-3) will play host to Morgan Academy on Thursday.
