AISA ALL-STATE: Powell leads top players for girls teams

Macon East senior Jamya Powell, whose double-double average of 22.8 points and 17.9 rebounds was tops in the Alabama Independent School Association, was recognized by the organization’s coaches as the 2026 AISA Player of the Year.
The 5-foot-11 post player led the Knights to the quarterfinals of the Class A state tournament before losing to Escambia.
Lowndes coach Matt Marshall, who led the Rebels to the Class AA state championship, was selected as the AISA Coach of the Year.
Powell was joined on the all-state first team by Monroe senior guard Mia Shadburn, North River forward Diamond Chankio, Springwood senior guard Tori Patillo and Edgewood point guard Jada Townsend, a sixth grader.
Making the AISA all-state second team were Southern junior center Abby Sluder, Lowndes senior forward Camryn Hess, Patrician junior guard Katelee Sikes, Abbeville junior guard Amari George and Jackson senior point guard Bethany Clayton.
Members of the AISA all-state team were selected by ballots submitted by the organization’s head coaches.
