FRIDAY NIGHT RECAP (Week 5): Trinity holds off Lee-Scott; Tallassee, Stanhope Elmore get first wins

Trinity 25, Lee-Scott Academy 23

AUBURN -- Trinity scored a pair of first-quarter touchdowns for an early lead, then held off Lee-Scott Academy late to defeat the Warriors 25-23 on Friday night in a non-region contest.
Patton Mitchell rushed for 71 yards on 13 carries and completed 9 of 18 passes for 110 yards to help the Wildcats grab a 13-0 lead in the first quarter and a 19-10 halftime lead.

William Hughes caught four passes for 68 yards to lead the Trinity receivers.

The Wildcats took a 25-10 lead into the fourth quarter before the Warriors scored on an interception return, then added a touchdown with 34 seconds left before the Wildcats recovered the ensuing onside kick and ran out the clock.

Reed Bledsoe had four tackles, including a pair of tackles for loss and a sack to lead the Trinity defense. Drew Sanders and Wilson Cherry had four tackles as well.

The loss extended Lee-Scott’s losing streak to seven games, dating back to last season’s 38-0 loss to Montgomery Academy in the second round of the state playoffs.

Trinity (5-1) won its fourth consecutive game and will travel to crosstown rival St. James next Friday for a Class A Private Region 2 game at Carlisle Field.

Macon East 62, Springwood 30

LANETT -- Matthew Simpson rushed for 217 yards and three touchdowns on 27 carries and added a reception for 54 yards to lead the Knights to a 62-30 win over Springwood School on Friday night in Class A football.

The defending A state champs (5-1) bounced back from last week’s loss to Cornerstone with Simpson’s all-purpose 287 yards and his seven tackles on defense, including a tackle for loss.

Brandon Fitch had 18 carries for 161 yards and four touchdowns and completed 5 of 9 passes for 173 yards, including a 55-yard touchdown pass to J.D. Spires.

Perry Harless led the Macon East defgense with eight tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Spires added seven tackles.

Springwood dropped to 0-6 with the loss.

Macon East returns home to play host to Evangel Christian next Friday for homecoming.

Alabama Christian 44, Sweet Water 0

SWEET WATER -- Micah Merritt rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns on just nine carries, leading the Eagles to a 44-0 win over Sweet Water in a game shortened by a power outage on Friday night.

The Eagles used 23 first-quarter points to grab a 37-0 lead at the half. Officials used a running clock in the second half. The game was called with 9:39 remaining in the fourth quarter due to a transformer issue on the campus.

Merritt scored on a 42-yard run five minutes into the game and added a two-point conversion run for an 8-0 lead. The Eagles would add two more scores in the final three minutes of the opening quarter, with Mason Henry throwing a 33-yard pass to Ethan Dabney and Merritt scoring on a 34-yard run for a 23-0 lead.

Henry threw touchdown passes of 12 and 7 yards to Levi Summers in second quarter for a 37-0 halftime lead.

Midway through the third quarter, Carlos Smith scored on a 7-yard run and Max Sanchez added the extra point for a 44-0 lead.

Henry completed 12 of 16 passes for 120 yards and three touchdowns. Dabney had five receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown and Summers had four catches for 30 yards and two touchdowns.

Alabama Christian held Sweet Water to two first downs, 7 rushing yards and 25 total yards in the game.

Defensively, Aidan Whiten led ACA with seven tackles, including three for loss, and a fumble recovery. Mekhi Gardner had five tackles, Copper Milner had four tackles and a tackle for loss and Logan Foster and Bryson Dabney each had four tackles as well.

ACA (3-3) returns home to play Wadley in a non-region contest next Friday, followed by a region matchup the following Friday against Fort Dale Academy.

Tallassee 34, Booker T. Washington 30

TALLASSEE -- Trent Morris threw for 249 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 90 yards and two more scores to help the Tigers snap a six-game losing streak with a 34-30 win over the Golden Eagles at J.E. “Hot” O’Brien Stadium on Friday night.

The Tigers (1-5) scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter to rally from a 30-27 deficit and earn their first win of the season.

Micah Bedgood threw a 51-yard touchdown pass to Jaylen Price to put BTW in front 6-0 before the Tigers rallied in the second quarter.

Morris scored on a 21-yard run and Channing Johnson added the extra point to put Tallassee in front in the second quarter before the Golden Eagles countered with a 38-yard touchdown run by Jaden Woods. Back came the Tigers with a 33-yard pass from Morris to Hudson Timmerman to give Tallassee a 14-12 halftime lead.

Booker T. Washington opened the second half with a pair of touchdowns, scoring on a 5-yard DJ Washington run and a 10-yard Bedgood pass to Price to put BTW back in front 24-20 entering the fourth quarter.

Morris ran 21 yards for a touchdown but Woods, who had 158 yards on 19 carries, countered with a 64-yard touchdown run to put BTW back on top. Morris then connected with Timmerman on a 34-yard touchdown pass to give the Tigers a 34-30 victory.

Morris completed 22 of 34 passes for 249 yards and three touchdowns, all to Timmerman, who had eight receptions for 140 yards. Abram Whittington also had eight receptions for 67 yards.

Tallassee travels to Troy next week to play Charles Henderson in a region game at Veterans Memorial Stadium.  

Stanhope Elmore 41, Eufaula 14

MILLBROOK - Davis Foshee passed for three touchdowns to lead the Mustangs to their first win of 2026.

Foshee connected with Leland Merrit, Dee Barnes and Atravion Smith for scores. Barnes also scored twice on runs of 1 and 20 yards. Demarion Thomas added a fumble recovery and return of 25 yards for a touchdown, one of five Eufaula turnovers on the night.

The Mustangs (1-6) goes to Rehobeth next Friday.

Hooper Academy 61, Autauga Academy 58

PRATTVILLE - Ayden Newman rushed for 237 yards and scored four times to lead the Colts to the win over Autauga Academy on Friday at Generals Field.

Quarterback Hunter Bowman passed for 116 yards and three touchdowns while Kingston White had 90 yards rushing with a score. Jeremy Griggs added five receptions for 89 yards and two touchdowns.

Cooper Cook led the Hooper defense with 10 tackles while Hudson Allen had eight stops and an interception that sealed the Colts’ win.

Laythan Rybarczyk led Autauga with 374 yards rushing and six touchdowns. Drez Lee added 84 yards and three touchdowns in rushing. He added two blocked punts and a sack defensively.

Hooper improved to 4-2, its best start since 2020.

The Colts play Valiant Cross next Friday while Autauga Academy (3-2) is home to face Crenshaw Christian.
