HOOPS UPDATE: Montgomery Academy boys steal a win at Carver; St. James girls throttle Thorsby

BOYS BASKETBALL

Montgomery Academy 60, G.W. Carver 57

A Jarrett Friendly three-point play tied the game followed by Mason Ellis’s three-point play lifted the Eagles to a win over Class 7A Carver on Thursday at the Carver gym.

Braden Gordon led all scorers with 24 points, including five three pointers. He also added seven rebounds and two assists. Ellis finished with 23 points, 19 of those in the second half, five assists and four rebounds. Friendly had eight points and 12 rebounds.

MA improves to 14-5 and is 4-0 in area play and faces Alabama Christian on Friday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

St. James 87, Thorsby 19

The Lady Trojans (19-3) got 20 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots from Jordyn McRae in a key win on Thursday. Natalie Barton added 18 points, seven rebounds, nine assists and six steals while Kaitlin Mitchell scored 18 points, and added four rebounds.

St. James will travel to Dallas County on Friday for another area game before heading to Georgia on Monday to play River Ridge High School, the defending 5A State Champs. 

G.W. Carver 50 , Montgomery Academy 31

Bailey Davis, EG Hines and Garland Thomas each scored eight points in a losing effort aginst Class 7A Carver.

Davis added six rebounds and two assists.

The Eagles (7-11 , 3-1 in area play) face Alabama Christian on Friday.
