MONDAY HOOPS: MA boys handles Pike Road; Trinity girls win key area game

BOYS BASKETBALL

Montgomery Academy 59, Pike Road 41

Montgomery Academy found itself locked in a battle for three quarters with Pike Road before outscoring the Patriots 20-7 in the fourth quarter for a 59-41 win at Joe Mooty Court on Monday.

Mason Ellis led the Eagles with 22 points, five steals. five assists and four rebounds. Braden Gordon added 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals, while JayJay Jackson added 11 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists. Jarrett Friendly had nine points, nine rebounds, three steals, three assists and two blocks, followed by Will Renfroe with three points, nine rebounds and a pair of steals.

Montgomery Academy (21-6) closes out the regular season at Enterprise on Tuesday before returning home to host the 3A Area 5 tournament at home on Saturday.

 

Stanhope Elmore 58, Prattville Christian 54

PRATTVILLE -- Carter Fiacco led the Panthers with 23 points and four rebounds in a 58-54 loss to the 6A Mustangs on Monday.

Cody Chapman added 16 points and six assists, followed by CJ Robinson with five points, Wade Mora with four points and seven rebounds and Justin Chapman with four points and four rebounds. Ethan Girlie grabbed four rebounds.

PCA (12-16) will close out the regular season on Thursday at Elmore County.

 

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Trinity 43, Tallassee 30

Ellie Causey had 30 points and six rebounds to lead the Wildcats to a 43-30 win in 4A Area 5 play at Captain Jack Court.

Lilly Smith added eight points, six rebounds and five assists.  Micaiah Shelton grabbed eight rebounds.

Trinity (18-7) closed out the area schedule with a 7-1 record, but will be the second seed in the upcoming Area 5 tournament this weekend at Catholic. The Wildcats will play third-seeded Tallassee in the area semifinals, with the winner advancing to the finals and earning a berth in the sub-regional round.  

 

Montgomery Academy 41, Pike Road 40

The Eagles won a one-point thriller over the Patriots on Monday night at Joe Mooty Court, surviving a missed shot at the buzzer to win 41-40.

Montgomery Academy was able to extend the lead multiple times to 13 points, but Pike Road clawed their way back and hit some timely 3-pointers down the stretch.

Bailey Davis had 20 points on the night, going 5 of 6 from the free-throw line, including 4 of 4 in the final quarter of play, with several huge blocks and steals at timely parts of the game.

Garland Thomas added 11 points, while E.G. Hines had a great game on the boards and really established a physical presence for the Eagles in the paint to counter Pike Road's physical play inside.

Montgomery Academy (10-14) will travel to Enterprise for a game against the 7A Wildcats on Tuesday before playing in the 3A Area 5 semifinals at St. James this weekend.

 

Stanhope Elmore 64, Prattville Christian 46

PRATTVILLE -- Eighth grader Avery Mann led the Lady Panthers with 15 points as PCA hung close for the majority of the game with the fifth-ranked team in Class 6A before falling to the Mustangs 64-46 on Monday night.

Reagan Houston added 12 points, five rebounds and four assists, followed by Baylee Rogers with nine points, Leah Cate Wilson with six points and 14 rebounds and Laney Little with four points and five rebounds.

PCA (14-13) will travel to play Alabama Christian on Tuesday at 5:30, then to Elmore County on Thursday before hosting the 4A Area 6 tournament this weekend.
