TUESDAY HOOPS: Hooper boys close out regular season with win; Enterprise knocks off MA

BOYS BASKETBALL

Hooper Academy 54, Coosa Valley 31

The Colts raced out to a 32-4 lead in the first quarter and cruised to a 23-point victory in the regular season finale at Darrell Self Gym on Tuesday.

Blu Richardson scored all eight of his points in the first quarter to help Hooper to a commanding lead in the opening quarter. Jacoby Rabb led the Colts with nine points. Bradee Colvett, Jeremy Griggs and Richardson all added eight points each.

Michael Gobel led Coosa Valley with 16 points.

Hooper Academy (19-9) will travel to Cecil to play Macon East Academy at Friday at 6:30 p.m. in the first round of the Alabama Independent School Association Class A playoffs.

 

St. James 49, Pike County 39

Wilson Aman scored 18 points to lead the Trojans to a 10-point win over the Bulldogs in the regular season finale on Tuesday.

Dylan Hines added 11 points and eight rebounds, Jordan Williams had 10 points and seven rebounds and Caleb Ellis scored seven points for St. James. Andrew Shalayda had eight rebounds for the Trojans.

St. James (11-11) will play Dallas County in the 3A Area 5 tournament semifinals at Montgomery Academy on Monday at 7 p.m.

 

Enterprise 60, Montgomery Academy 44

ENTERPRISE -- Montgomery Academy closed out the regular season on the road on Tuesday, falling to the 7A Wildcats in a physical battle in the Enterprise gym.

Braden Gordon led all scorers with 20 points, seven rebounds, two steals and two assists. Mason Ellis added eight points, four assists, four rebounds and two steals while JayJay Jackson added six points, had four steals and three rebounds. Jarrett Friendly chipped in four points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Montgomery Academy (21-7) returns home to host the 3A Area 5 tournament, playing the Alabama Christian-Thorsby winner in the tournament semifinals on Monday.

Enterprise remains home to host the 7A Area 3 tournament, playing JAG in a semifinal matchup on Feb. 12 at 5:30 p.m.

 

Trinity 67, Tallassee 50

Six players scored seven points or more as the Wildcats hit their highest point total of the season to snap a three-game losing streak in a 67-50 win over Tallassee at Captain Jack Court on Monday night.

The Wildcats rallied from a two-point deficit at the end of the first quarter, outscoring the Tigers 18-8 in the second quarter and 23-17 in the third to pull away.

Wilson Cherry led the way with 16 points, hitting four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to hold the Tigers at bay. Kamari Hutson added 15 points, followed by Charlie Reese with 10, Tillman Clements with eight and Mackin Roth and William Hughes with seven points each.

Jayshun Skipper led the Tigers with 15 points.

Trinity (9-15) will play Booker W. Washington in the 4A Area 5 tournament semifinals on Monday at 3:30 p.m. in the Catholic gym.

Tallassee will play host to LAMP in a first-round tournament game on Saturday at 1 p.m., with the winner advancing to the semifinals against Catholic on Monday in the Catholic gym.

 

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Prattville Christian 47, Alabama Christian 35

Prattville Christian pulled away from a halftime tie by going 11 of 14 at the free-throw line in the third quarter to help the Panthers to a 47-35 win in the ACA gym on Tuesday night.

Eighth grader Laney Little led PCA with 17 points and 15 rebounds, scoring seven of her points in the third quarter. Baylee Rogers added 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists, followed by Avery Mann with eight points, eight rebounds and five steals, Leah Cate Wilson with seven points, 15 rebounds and four assists and Kayleigh Arthur with five points.

Sam Burgess had 11 points and five rebounds to lead the Eagles, scoring all 11 of her points in the first half to help ACA to a 20-20 tie with the Panthers at halftime. Adalyn Newkirk added eight points, four blocked shots and three rebounds, while Campbell Hammett had seven points, seven rebounds, five steals and four assists.

Alabama Christian (8-15) will play host to Dallas County in the first round of the 3A Area 5 tournament on Thursday at 6 p.m., with the winner advancing to the tournament semifinals against St. James at St. James on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Prattville Christian (15-13) will travel to Elmore County on Thursday to close out the regular season, then will return home to play host to the 4A Area 6 tournament on Saturday in the PCA gym, playing the winner of the Holt-West Blocton game.
